Bumblebee – Summary/ Review (with Spoilers)

Bumblebee is a bit forceful in trying to get you emotional, but the action is just what you’d expect from a Transformers movie.

It’s 1987 in Brighton Falls, CA and 17-year-old Charlie is still mourning the loss of her father and dealing with her mother moving on and starting something new. Luckily, to distract her, she has the car she has long been working on, her job, and this kid next door, Memo, who has a thing for her. But, life gets a whole lot more interesting when Bumblebee crash lands on Earth. This happens after he, and many other Autobots, flee Cybertron since the war on their home planet is lost.

Unfortunately, no sooner does Bumblebee crash land he finds himself hunted by the US Military and a Decepticon. One which Bumblebee handles, but not before being damaged to the point of losing his ability to speak and being coerced to shut down to recover. Something he does while masquerading as a lovebug.

Fast forward some days, weeks, maybe months, he is discovered by Charlie. Someone who gives Bumblebee without knowing what he is. Something she discovers when she tries to look under his chassis and he reveals himself to her. But, unbeknownst to both, the first time she turned him on he sent a signal that two Decepticons, Shatter and Dropkick, hear. Leading them to crash land on Earth and fool the US Government into becoming allies.

As that happens, Bumblebee and Charlie bond, and Memo eventually discovers what Bumblebee is. But, with knowing what Bumblebee is comes a bit of caution. Something that bites Charlie in the behind for with leaving him alone one day, he destroys the house and causes a power surge which reveals his position. This leads to Shatter and Dropkick heading over to Brighton Falls, with the government assisting, and trying to beat a confession out of Bumblebee about Optimus Prime’s whereabouts.

Something that Bumblebee can’t give, because of their long since dead peer, but they do hear Optimums Prime’s speech when they hit him in just the right way. Thus setting up the end of the movie which has Shatter and Dropkick trying to call for an army to come to Earth and Bumblebee, with Charlie assisting, taking them both out.

Leaving us with Shatter and Dropkick dead, in a rather uneventful way, and us learning Optimus Prime and more are either on Earth or on their way. Oh, and Memo tries to make a move, just holding Charlie’s hand, but it seems she isn’t ready for all that yet. He should just appreciate the kiss on the cheek he got the previous night.
