The Thereafter: Goblin Slayer, Onna, Ushikai, Uketsukejou
It’s a celebration as the demon lord has been slain! Yes, their army still roams but, without their leader, there are hopes for peace. Yet, with peace comes the question of what will there be left to do? Well, business as usual of course. Goblin Slayer will slay goblins, Onna, Ushikai, and Uketsukejou will worry about him, and that’s that.
Though there is a need to question, what will he do when he is too old or damaged to do so? This is what Ushikai questions and with meeting Goblin Slayer’s friends, it seems she tries to reassert his position in her life. How? Well, when they return home, she makes sure they have an intimate moment. Nothing on a Sword Maiden level, but just him resting on her lap and them talking. You know, reconnecting after he was gone for quite some time.

Question(s) Left Unanswered
- Are there only 10 Platinum-ranked adventures? Notes that the hero who defeated the demon lord became the tenth platinum-ranked adventurer in history. So either they are #10 or are the 10th.
- Why is seeing Goblin Slayer’s face not an option? That is, his face above his nose?

We’re Reminded What Goblin Slayer Fights For
When Goblin Slayer shifts into becoming a slice of life type show, it is a little discombobulating. Mostly because this show goes from violent, in terms of run of the mill action, to hinting and showing women being raped, and then it is Goblin Slayer hanging out with friends and eating a meal. You know, just regular, uneventful stuff. This presents a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, as the heading notes, it reminds you what Goblin Slayer fights for. It’s so people can live comfortably and happily, like Ushikai. It is so women like the Sword-Maiden aren’t scarred for life.

But, I gotta admit, a whole episode dedicated to running errands and hanging out seems like a waste when talking about a show that may have 12 episodes, at most, and likely will only produce one season. Granted, I get the point of many anime is to sell merchandise, including the source material. However, speaking as someone who doesn’t currently read manga or do more than subscribe to a package to legally watch anime, it feels like you get a little bit cheated in a way?
Not that I don’t realize if I want the full story the manga is on Amazon and available in English. It’s just that issue which comes from those who do read, and appreciate a good book, yet their preference is visual storytelling. Add in how action animes sometimes feel like they peak early on, and then taper off, and I hope you can see my issue here.

I really like the quiet moments in Goblin Slayer because they contrast so sharply with the ‘adventures’. I think it is helpful to build plausibility into the world because not every day can be life or death. Admittedly, as a single episode, it feels like too much down time when watching week to week (would definitely work better binged), but then when we got to the ending and I saw where we were heading for the final two episodes I realised how much I was going to appreciate this calm moment.
It definitely has a calm before the storm vibe. Also, it makes me wonder if Crunchyroll would ever get into the binge market?
