Meet Lord Galford and Imperial Knight Alicia: Lord Galford, Sylvie, Alicia, Rem, Shera, Diablo
Because you can never have enough characters, we are introduced to two this episode. The first being the stoic lord of Faltra, Lt. Gen Chester Ray Galford and one of the few, maybe even the first, female Imperial Knights: Alicia Cristela. These two are met since Diablo requests additional information for this upcoming quest. However, Lord Galford hasn’t much to give so all that happens is Diablo trying to balance his egotistical demon persona with his more kinder side – to mixed results.
Commentary
I hope these two new characters bring something to this. Mind you, Lord Galford we may not see again, or at least anytime soon, but Alicia seemingly is part of the pack now. So here is hoping she doesn’t join the harem but really pushes the fact she is one of the few female Imperial Knights forward. Particularly since human society seems to be dominant and quite oppressive. Making her a means to clue us into how the royal family thinks and also her feelings on the fantasy creatures which fill their world.
Well, at least this is what I’m hoping.
Let The Fun Begin!: Alicia, Rem, Shera, Diablo
Being that Shera’s brother badly wants her back, there is a bounty on her head. One which leads to Shera being kidnapped despite having what sounded like a decent level. Yet, some kind of humanoids are able to kidnap her. Albeit, not for long, since Diablo, using a downgraded scythe as a weapon, takes out a good bit of them. Leading to him telling Shera to remain close and her to show she has feelings for Diablo. Which it seems he is getting used to now.
But, Alicia helps too! Not much, which bothers her, but she tries. Though Diablo cutting her no slack makes her beat herself up a bit.
Commentary
Mundane action, minimal ecchi, it’s like they took the two selling points of this show and decided to water them down. And while, yes, as noted, Alicia could bring something to the table, we may have to wait for an episode or two for her to become noteworthy. As of now, she is painted as a joke. A pleaser who wants to cement her place in the Imperial Knights. Which, again, could make things interesting, but just as this show seemed to have gotten its stride it tripped again. So I don’t know how much faith to really put into this episode just being a bump in the road.
Question(s) Left Unanswered
- Is Diablo wearing tights most of the time?
Collected Quote(s) & .Gifs
I couldn’t possibly empathize with that, but I’ll retain the knowledge of it.
Highlights
- Alicia’s Introduction presents us with a representative of the royal family. Thus cluing us into their way of thinking. Also, with it being noted she is one of the few, or first, women to be an Imperial Knight, that could bring something interesting.
Low Points
- Lord Galford had no personality or presence.
On The Fence
- While you understand Diablo’s need for less-lethal weapons, watching him shop and take out pip-squeaks was kind of boring after the fights of the last two episodes.

I didn’t mind this episode. While it was definitely a set up episode, I felt they kept things moving along enough to keep me interested, and the minimal fan-service was appreciated. I’m kind of hoping the Lord comes back in future episodes because otherwise his introduction will have been a waste of screen time, but hopefully Alicia is entertaining in the next episode.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the episode.
Can’t wait to read yours 😀
But yeah, while I know they are necessary, I like my setup episodes as early as possible and we are zooming on from there. Otherwise, it sort of kills the momentum for me. Unless I’m binge watching but that happens so rarely with anime.
