The Ms. Pat Show: Season 3/ Episode 10 “Father Christmas” – Episode Recap/ Review

Plot Recap

Wishes and Presents – Terry, Pat, Denise

As both the audience and Terry know, Pat and Denise didn’t have the best upbringing, including Christmas. Toys weren’t really a thing, nor were games or even the type of meals that put you in a food coma. So, with that in mind, Pat tries to make Christmas everything she wanted for her kids and more.

But, it isn’t just for the kids but Terry she wants to have a nice time, so with Denise, she decides to try to find Terry’s biological father. Now, unfortunately, his mom has nothing but a name, and Facebook doesn’t help much, but Pat would like to do something memorable but isn’t above just getting him a $1000 television.

Can’t Beat It For $1000 – Bernard, Pat, Denise, Junebug

Luckily for Pat, she meets Bernard, who as a mall Santa when she met him, but was fired for being drunk on the job. But it’s Ms. Pat and she is a hustler so, getting this drunk man to pretend to be Terry’s dad to get him some closure? What’s $1000.00 for the man to have that kind of peace?

Plus, with the way Bernard is, he’ll put on a show, and with him being a drunk, Terry will figure he didn’t miss much, or at least that was the plan. Junebug, who is brought into the situation, finds himself having to take Bernard up to his room to sleep off his latest binge, and when he does so, he is lead to think the man isn’t breathing.

Thankfully, we just learn that Bernard has occasional heart attacks which he miraculously recovers from without any medical intervention.

Snitches Usually Get Stiched, And People Who Invite Others To Things They Ain’t Paying For – Janelle, Bernard, Terry, Pat, Denise

But, while Pat meant well, before Bernard woke up from his meeting with his momma, it was assume he was dead, and the task was getting from upstairs to downstairs. This was all going well until Janelle learned what was going on, and, as Denise had predicted, she snitched. She called an ambulance, Terry got alerted and by the time it was all over, Bernard may have been awake, but the ruse was over and Pat was a little bit upset.

However, bad goes to worse, in the beginning, due to Janelle deciding to invite Bernard for dinner, especially after hearing he has been homeless since 2008 and was going to have dinner at the Waffle House. Yet, despite Janelle deciding to invite someone to dinner, they all have a good time and eat Chinese food. At least until Bernard passes out again or temporarily dies, craps on himself, and runs everyone out.

But, to end things on a positive note, it snows, Terry gets his $1000 TV, and while he doesn’t meet his dad, Bernard does reveal himself to be Santa.

Highlights

Addressing Struggles Mentioned Throughout The Series & Beyond

From Terry’s father not being who he thought he was to Ms. Pat reminding us of how her childhood was, what I truly love, and I’ve said this before, about “The Ms. Pat Show” is that as much as it allows you to jump into nearly any episode, it rewards you for watching them all in order. Similar to “9-1-1,” it understands not everyone is going to read Ms. Pat’s book, watch her stand up, or may even watch older episodes. Granted, it isn’t a huge amount, but not everyone is trying to binge-watch to catch up.

But, alongside that, I love that, no matter how much Ms. Pat can afford, you still end up watching a hood Christmas. Yes, the family is there, people get presents, and it ends on a happy note. But we still got a drunk, Denise almost relapses, talks about wanting to do crack, and there were some shenanigans.
