Episode 4 “Wet Work” Storylines/ Recap
Digging Up Bodies Most Want To Remain Buried: Helen, Olive
Helen, in pursuit of finding her twin sister, goes to the other children, now adults, to find some trace of her, especially after seeing flowers put on her parents’ grave that she knows wasn’t hers. But, while she gets one lead, the name “Jameson,” who might be in Melville, Olive reports Guy hasn’t checked in and is missing drops. Whether it be ego or being distracted, Helen never minds.
Underestimated Or Seen For His Potential?: Jasper, Raglan, Guy, Doris
Guy may not trust Jasper, but with a mutual enemy, both having a desire to take down the Talamasca, they are in alignment enough to trust one another. Plus, the place where Jasper believes the 752 is, the West Croft Hotel, is a place that Jasper can’t go. However, with Guy’s mind-reading abilities, it was originally assumed he could enter safely.

However, Raglan, the first Talamasca we were introduced to in Interview With The Vampire, makes it clear he is there to make a deal, and if Guy gets in his way, there will be trouble. Originally, this leads to him backing down, and Doris trying to help Guy get out of there. But with not trusting her, nor liking how Raglan played him, and wanting to sock it to the Talamasca, he forces his way upstairs and makes Raglan introduce him to his contact.
Remember That You Are Working For Yourself: Raglan, Jasper, Guy, Doris, Checkers
Seeing Guy be impetuous leads to Doris joining Raglan and Guy on the elevator, and once she gets the sense that he is in trouble, she sends word to Jasper’s people. Good thing too, for upon meeting Raglan’s contact, he is ready to throw Guy under the bus to get rid of him. Thankfully, only Raglan gets hurt in the process, shot to be exact, as a now rabid vampire version of Checkers handles all of the vampires who were supposed to protect Raglan’s contact.
However, while Raglan got shot, it was a warning shot as he tried to change the terms of the deal to go from giving up who knows how much money to giving over Guy as payment. Raglan reveals Guy’s powers and touts him as an asset, and we learn he can not only hear thoughts, but also dive deep into minds, even experience people’s memories. But not too long after this reveal, Raglan’s contact is killed, Checkers leaves, and Raglan picks up a suitcase that doesn’t have the 752, but the blood of a vampire at least 700 years old.
Jasper walks in not too long after Raglan leaves and sees the vampire in question. This all reinforces why Jasper wants the 752. The power the Talamasca has leads them to claim they know or see everything, yet they didn’t know about this ancient being getting drained for the benefit of who knows what or who. So, after Jasper puts this being out of his misery, he and Guy leave, with Doris hiding in the trunk to see where they are going, hear what they are talking about, and maybe to make yet another save of a boy she barely knows.

- Character Summary: Raglan is a member of the Talamasca, previously introduced in Interview With The Vampire, who shows himself to be an agent who uses the Talamasca’s resources, but considers the job to be more like an independent contractor than an employee. Leading to him often acting more out of self-interest than for the better good of mankind or the supernatural.
Review and Commentary
Highlights
Raglan Should Have Been Lead [83/100]
I feel like Raglan’s personality, his vibe, his goals, and the fact that we met him already, should have led to him being the lead over Guy. Just his presence alone is more than what Guy has given us so far, and add in that he has this vibe of being corrupt, self-centered, but still knows who he works for and plays ball when necessary, that could have been an interesting watch.
Maybe The Jasper x Guy Combination Isn’t So Bad After All? [81/100]
With that said, we’re stuck with Guy, but I think the dynamic with Jasper is getting better. Will it save the season and make us beg for a second one? No. But Jasper not being a broody vampire is starting to be refreshing, and his playfulness, mixed with what he did to Checkers, shows a range that does present the idea that maybe Guy could be in trouble.
Note, I don’t think they will kill off Guy, but there is always the chance they could make him a vampire, and he could succeed in doing some form of damage to the Talamasca. Though, knowing shows like this, it will probably end with learning his mom has the 752, is the 752, or is part of the group planning to use the 752 to create a new version of the Talamasca, with the supernatural as involved as Jasper believes they should be.
On The Fence
Not Understanding Doris’ Interest [73/100]
While I do enjoy Doris, her continued interactions with Guy don’t make a whole lot of sense. Granted, it was painted that Keves may have been a spy of some sort, so maybe Doris has taken up that mantle. Thing is, the coven Doris is part of doesn’t seem like the type that could afford to be involved in Talamasca business, never mind the type of vampires Raglan was making deals with. So why stick their neck on the line for Guy makes any sense at all.
Helen’s Investigation [71/100]

The reason we didn’t mention Helen going to that mansion, which looked like an asylum, in the last episode was that it was a pretty dry and bland storyline. That continued with this episode, and while Raglan and Helen do present the idea that every agent may have joined in search of information for themselves, that doesn’t help Helen much.
Similar to Guy, she is a dull character, and with her lacking a talent, it makes her all the more boring. So even attempting to gain an interest in her twin, where they are, and what happened to them, is a struggle. Now, maybe a villain would help or someone for Helen to play off of, like Guy has with Jasper, or had with Raglan this episode. But, it doesn’t seem Helen is going to have someone to liven her up anytime soon.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [77/100]
Talamasca: The Secret Order remains on the bubble for us. It could get better and make us feel overtly judgemental or prove us right. Even with being a bit halfway past the middle point, it still is hard to tell, and honestly, we may only stick around since there are two episodes left. Not because we’re just so excited to learn the truth.
