Recap

A Promising Young Talent – Carlo, Sofia, Leonardo, Luca

With hearing Sofia’s plans to abandon Milan and her education, Carlo runs after her and convinces her to stay. He even spends time with her at a book store and introduces her to his editor. But, despite his effort and ego, it seems Leonardo, one of Carlo’s other promising pupils, was also a factor in Sofia’s staying. Especially since Carlo isn’t trying to do anything to cross the line again.

Life After An Affair – Marco, Giulia, Carlo, Margherita, Ana

Marco and Giulia, Carlo and Margherita’s friends, survived an affair, so what happened and why is a question? Sadly, Marco, who calls himself a cuckold, has no explanation, and Giulia? The one who had an affair? She just makes it seem she had a rough patch, and a French painter said all the right things. So, they had sex.

It being that easy worries Margherita and with her mother, Ana, providing no guidance, and Carlo asking for her back, she seems to reconcile with him.

Temptation – Margherita, Eva, Andrea

However, Margherita tells her friend Eva, co-owner of the real estate firm she works at, things aren’t the same. In fact, with her masseuse Andrea, temptation has reached a fever pitch. The kind where Margherita almost had him massage her in places usually restricted to Carlo.

But, she tries to keep away from going too far. Though, with getting on his bike late at night, it is hard to say if that may be the only thing of his she’ll ride that night.

While the show’s English title mentions love and desire, what it is lacking right now is passion. Love is paper-thin, desire showed only through decreasingly arousing (to the senses) sex scenes, and I must admit I struggle to find myself remaining invested in any relationship.

Carlo and Margherita seem comfortable now, more than romantic. Sofia and Carlo’s has hit a wall, and Margherita’s new thing with Andrea could be hot, but I can also imagine it fizzling out as quickly as it begins. This leaves me grateful that this is only 6 episodes, but I wonder if this has already peaked?

In its third episode, Devotion A Story of Love and Desire begins to seem like a show reliant on sex to compensate for lack of chemistry and compelling storylines.
