Episode 4 “The Perfect Start to a Heroic Tale” Recap (With Spoilers)
The Gameplan: Kyle, Sildonia, Urza, Liese, Theron
Between Sildonia and Kyle, with them knowing it is only in a few days Princess Milena will be killed, the game plan is to follow her, find out what will happen, and stop it. Urza and Liese are down, and Theron especially, as he is a creep who just wants to get close enough to a woman to attempt to woo them.
But, in the process of following the princess, Sildonia reveals she can transform, and this doesn’t lead to anyone batting an eye. Making you wonder if the only secret Kyle may need to continue to hide is this being his second life – among how he knows Urza personally.
Preparation aside, upon seeing Princess Milena’s carriage stopped, her guards killed, and others throwing some kind of magic to draw monsters to her location, the team acts with Theron tasked with repairing the reins, Liese and Urza with fighting off hellhounds, and Kyle? Well, he decides he is going to face the hydra, which is bound to show up and end the princess’ life, as she is knocked out with her ladies-in-waiting.
Biting Off More Than You Can Chew: Kyle, Sildonia
Kyle has experience facing a three-headed hydra, with some challenges, but overall, still winning the fight. An 8-headed Hydra is a whole other game, and to make matters worse, on top of the Hydra’s strength being based on their number of heads, they are mostly immune to sword attacks, have poison breath, and, like in most mythology, their heads/necks heal rapidly.
Thankfully, Kyle has more than enough magic at his disposal, specifically magical stones and a cape that protects him from the poison breath, to eventually kill the hydra.
Changing Fate Doesn’t Mean Better Results: Milena, Kyle, Zentos, Carenas
With the assassins, hellhounds, and hydra handled, Kyle checks in on Milena, who, when she comes to, alongside her ladies in waiting, has no question in her mind whether or not this was an assassination attempt. But, while Kyle assumed it was Prince Carenas who was the mastermind, it actually was Zentos, Captain of Second Battalion.

With knowing this, and the likelihood of not hearing back triggering his need for a follow-up, Kyle’s crew joins Milena, and off they go to plan their next move.

Highlights
Changing The Future, Assumingly For The Better [84/100]
With Sildonia mentioning in a past episode that fate is done with broad strokes, there is a need to question, as Kyle makes changes, like saving Milena’s life, whether he is delaying the inevitable or creating a notable and drastic change? On top of that, with any changes he makes, how does that affect his ability to predict, or even prevent, future events?
Never mind, with changing Princess Milena’s fate, now Zentos and Carenas are open to different decisions, which could have triggered the war. On top of that, as much as Kyle might be working to aid the good and fix their problems, who is to say he won’t make some things worse for them? What if Princess Milena becomes paranoid, no longer a woman of the people, and starts a civil war? Maybe even one amongst the Humanoid population by means of an active offense is the best defense?
We don’t mean to be pessimistic, but there is a level of excitement that comes from Kyle venturing into the unknown as he makes what are presumably strategic changes.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [84/100]
While New Saga initially came off a tad bit dry since Kyle had the advantage of knowing all that would lead up to the end, with him making changes and stumbling sometimes on when to keep his mouth shut or put off premonitions on Sildonia, it could lead to interesting drama, action sequences, and surely an anime worth following till its ends.
