Episode 13 “The World Is Yours” Recap (With Spoilers)
Who Is Really The Terrorist Here?: Sorya, Axel, Abel, Lt. Schneider
Abel has Lt. Schneider arrested for ignoring the Geneva Convention and trying to produce bio-weapons based on Dr. Skinner’s Hapna research (which led to the Schiphol Airport incident years ago), and he strangely goes without really causing a scene. Which may surprise you since he had so many of his INSCOM soldiers with guns ready to shoot, but Abel seemed to handle him well and got Hersch out of there without an incident.
As for Axel? Him meeting up with Sorya/HQ, at one of Babylon City’s tallest towers, leads to a fight between them, with a helicopter being a third party since Lt. Schneider got them both on a terrorist watch list. However, Sorya, having a rocket launcher, handles that, and even with his injuries, Axel is able to do his usual parkour, so alongside being able to outmaneuver Sorya, he survives the angel on top of the Babylon tower collapsing and the falling down multiple stories.
Now, as for Sorya’s story and all that was left to be answered? We learn he was part of a program to train assassins, to make heartless monsters, and he did what he was trained to do. He killed his instructor, his peers, and then became his own agent for work because the trauma split him down the middle. He also learned the Hundun, after being poked many times to give him eyes, died on day 7, and this gave him peace.
Why Everyone Was Chosen For Lazarus: Abel, Leland, Axel, Doug, Chris, Elaina, Hersch, Dr. Skinner

The long-standing question of Lazarus is what led to this group being chosen, and the answer lies with the incident mentioned in episode 10, and even talked about in Chris’ backstory episode, episode 8. The reason? When that aforementioned stand-off happened, and INSCOM and the local police had a shoot-out, and the bio-weapon Dr. Skinner was trying to expose leaked, everyone was there. Chris’ episode goes into the deaths, but what wasn’t said then was that Axel, Leland, Doug, and Elaina were also there.
This is the primary reason behind Abel and, perhaps, Hersch choosing this team, and as shown through Elaina’s recovery in episode 12, each one has a unique tolerance or resistance to the deadly effects of Hapna. Now, is it good enough to where their blood or chemistry could have been used? Maybe. But, seemingly, that wasn’t considered, and Abel got Hersch to recruit them just to find Dr. Skinner.
A New Life With A Clean Slate: Dr. Skinner, Abel, Leland, Hersch, Chris, Doug, Axel, Jill, Elaina
With Jill’s help, Dr. Skinner is found in her homeless camp, and he easily gives away the formula needed to save the world. But, of course, Hersch asks why she was abandoned, to which Dr. Skinner replies he didn’t want her to go down with him, after making that bio-weapon possible.
This leads to the realization that, with Dr. Skinner found, there is a chance Hersch may try to kill the living members of Lazarus, but Abel steps in before that happens. He not only notes that everyone is free and past convictions are wiped, but also offers them jobs to continue their work, to which everyone says yes.

But with this being the series finale, don’t expect to see those adventures.

Highlights
Sorya’s End Was Acceptable [80/100]
Did Sorya go out with a bang? No. But at the very least, you can’t say the injured, and honestly outmatched, Axel killed him. Instead, he simply got lucky and outmaneuvered him.
Now, was the whole explanation of him being a child trained to be an assassin and him killing everyone something which felt big, notable, and executed in such a way to be worthy of his build? Nope. But, Sorya was a character introduced late to the series, and one of its many blemishes will be bringing on someone like him around the time the show was wrapping things up.
The Reason Lazarus Was Chosen Makes Enough Sense [82/100]
The members of Lazarus being chosen due to surviving the Hapna Schiphol Airport incident makes sense. Did it feel like it was pulled out last minute? Sort of. You could submit that we did see a kid who could pass for Axel, and that was a hint. But, as with the Sorya explanation, it isn’t a jaw-dropping, best idea ever, scenario, but it adds up.
It makes monitoring their vitals, keeping them on a leash, more than keeping this group in line, but seeing what happens to them, will there be any sudden side effects that need to be monitored or, ultimately, if Dr. Skinner could not be found, could their blood, their genes, allow for a potential cure, or at least a path to one?
The Animation After Sorya and Axel’s Battle [84/100]

One thing you can never take away or critique Lazarus about is its animation and the whole sequence of that giant angel statue falling, with Sorya and Axel trying to navigate the debris; it was beautiful. Granted, it led to Sorya’s death, which wasn’t necessarily epic, nor was his final line, but man, it was beautiful to watch.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [82/100]
Did Lazarus end in an epic way? Not by any means. However, it was good enough. It is by no means a classic, won’t be the anime you recommend to people to get into the style, but it ends in a way that is good enough not to dog it out for its multi-episode filler.
