Ready To Love (S09E09) – They Who Hate Drama Usually Cause It
The getaway episode is one of the last themed episodes that usually create new couples and leads to people beginning to lock in – but not this season.
Plot Recap
But I Don’t Do Drama – Laron, William, Mya
What do you do when desperate not to be eliminated but know you haven’t put in the work to stay around? When dealing with a bunch of Black people, many with kids who barely have the time to date, what is a great well to poison the well? Make it seem like someone likes drama.
That is what Laron does, and he calls out William about some drama that happened WEEKS ago. In doing so, he poisoned the well with Mya, Laron’s only viable connection at this point, and it seems Mya doesn’t pick up on it.
Aren’t You Supposed to Hone In By This Point? – Chaz, Vanessa, Rasheena, Patrice
Chaz has three connections. As you can imagine, Vanessa isn’t happy about this. She doesn’t have options; she is locked in, yet he hasn’t necessarily begun culling who he is talking to. Instead, he adds Patrice to the mix!
With that, Vanessa decides to drink a bit and observe, and Chaz has chats with Patrice, noting he didn’t have her number, and once he does, he begins becoming consistent. Then, with Rasheena, he flirts and gets a bit naughty, and Vanessa is forced to just watch because it is the group getaway.
However, as the elimination conversation goes on, Vanessa learns that most women have conversations with Chaz, so it seems.
I Know Where I Messed Up – Laron, William, Alonzo, Patrice
Laron, for the entire episode, saw the writing on the wall. His connections have dwindled, and he is ready to get his crawfish and go home when it comes to elimination. But, thanks to his doing, William is at the bottom with him, and Alonzo? It seems while Patrice is hanging onto him, you can’t deny that, like Chaz, she has many options, and while he has made a grand gesture, is that enough?
But this episode ends in a cliffhanger, so we won’t know who will go home until the next episode.
Other Noteworthy Information
- Next Eliminated (Men): It will either be Laron, then William, or William, then Laron. I know both are Mya’s last connections, but she I feel like the water has been poisoned for both, and while Alonzo keeps heading to the bottom, his efforts go beyond William and Laron.
- Next Eliminated (Women): Vanessa. Usually, it is harder to guess who will go home, but Chaz has four options. She feels like she has reached her limit in showing interest or pursuit, so it seems over for her as the other ladies likely are to
- Final Couples: It still feels too difficult, despite how far we’re into the process, to say who is going to be the final three with any certainty. I think Patrice will make it to the end, but with whom, it is hard to say. Rasheena, too, could make it to the end, and potentially Mya. However, trying to guess what man will be standing beside either of them or if they will choose themselves is far more difficult of a choice than it should be.

Review
On The Fence
Such A Tame Season
Did Laron stir up some drama? Yeah, but compared to past seasons, the back-and-forth ended quickly, and everyone moved on. Maya and William talked, and we returned to what some could consider grown and sexy.
In many ways, this is good and shows progress for the series. But as for the entertainment side of it? I have to admit I was bored and don’t feel like the lack of drama is compensated. There isn’t that one romance or series of romances to swoon over. We don’t get notable conversations about love, life, or what any cast member is going through.
The way this season has progressed, as much as you have to credit Alonzo for his grand gesture, there comes the question of how much was that him or how much was that the producers? Which isn’t to downplay his ideas, connections, or money. It is just that, as much as I and others have complained about casting and more, this season feels like a pendulum swing that has gone in the total opposite direction.
