Summary

Finding Volskaya, at first, seemed like a blessing. Yes, it was a village near a submarine that had caused a level of contamination that killed those who previously lived there. However, now the submarine provides the village power, and the vampire and human population live not only in peace but together as one.

Because of this, Momo loves the place, but Fine is a bit less naïve. After all, Momo is only 14, so she doesn’t have the nose, eyes, or ears for BS yet. Never mind, even with going through the Central military academy, who knows how well trained their soldiers are for BS?

Either way, Fine, with seeing how happy Momo is, once again feels tempted to leave her, and with Momo making a friend out of Elisha and then Allegro showing up, Fine feels like it might be time to go. However, upon learning Fine left, Momo tries to go after her, and with that, the whole village switches things up. Momo becomes trapped in her room, and it appears everyone is hunting for Fine.

Why? Well, beyond no one being allowed to leave the village, it is also because they figure they can use her to power the village. Now, don’t ask how it works, but it seems they have been using one vampire, pumped with blood, to somehow produce energy. Fine almost discovered this being, but she was told the vampire was not to be taken seriously.

However, now Momo knows the truth, and after escaping, she finds herself just as hunted as Fine, who gets abandoned by Allegro and captured. Though, to make matters worse, Momo’s mom and uncle are on their way and get into skirmishes with the village leadership. All of this leaves us with Momo potentially drowning, after defeating Elisha in the submarine, Fine trapped in a coffin, and the village in a similar state to the hotel Fine and Momo were in – which is on fire.

Things To Note

Elisha latching onto Momo

Question(s) Left Unanswered

  1. What is Allegro’s deal?
  2. What was Kubo like as a teen? For with him making it sound like he rebelled in a similar fashion to Momo, it would be interesting to see what a true rebel is like

What Could Happen Next

  1. Allegro rescues Momo, and together they rescue Fine

Review

Highlights

A Dash Of World Building

With establishing the name of Elisha’s village, getting a sense that they have culture, and learning about how they have power, despite being remote, it felt like we got to know and experience a place. Rather than it being a locale for the story and not much beyond that.

On The Fence

Still Waiting On Notable Character Development

While there is clearly a story, as for characters, we’re left out in the cold more often than not. I mean, the fact we’re at the penultimate episode of the season (assuming this isn’t a part 1), and we just now learn Momo is 14?! I don’t know about you, but I thought she was older the way her mom talked about her.

Also, take into consideration it was noted Kubo, at one time, thought humans could integrate with vampires and had a bad experience. It leaves you feeling like there are many questions that Vampire In The Garden has no desire to answer.

Which maybe is just an issue for me since I like character-driven shows, but I can’t be alone in wanting more out of these people, right?

Vampire In The Garden: Season 1/ Episode 4 – Recap/ Review
Overall
Vampire In The Garden increasingly seems like it could have potential, but it wants to avoid dwelling on any place or topic. Because of this, while we’ve seen various parts of the show’s world, we know little to nothing about each place. Then, with the characters, while you’ll know their faces, it can sometimes feel like the most basic information is unknown until it pops up on you. Add in names being dropped, like Fine’s ex, and no follow-up? It makes this a frustrating watch experience.
