Storyline Recap

You’re Still Here? – Cody, Yancy, Bonnie, Jim

As Yancy returns home to get a change of clothes before continuing his investigation with Rosa and now Ro, he sees Cody, and thinking he is an intruder, he takes him down. Bonnie reveals herself, and Yancy puts two and two together to realize the stalker who almost killed him was Cody, and Cody, in return, reveals that the only reason he did that was because he thought Yancy was a danger to Bonnie.

Yancy, to a point, doesn’t care because he has moved on, but he still has a soft spot for Bonnie, so with her still on the run, she clues her in on a new place to hide, the cabin by a lake where Jim, Yancy’s father, lives.

Et Tu Brutus? – Rogelio, Yancy, Rosa, Sonny, Monte, Mendez

After leaving home and heading to Rogelio’s, Yancy is greeted by the grandest of betrayals as Ro turns Yancy in. As you can imagine, he is shocked, Rosa is pissed, and Monte, Rogelio’s husband, questions why did he do this? Granted, he wasn’t fond of some of what Yancy was into or doing, but as a lawyer, if the s*** hit the fan, he was ready and did show up when it was time.

Ro? He doesn’t see the light until Rosa goes off on him, Mendez pushes the idea he did the right thing, and Sonny co-signs such an action. Add in remembering how Yancy hasn’t just been a partner at work but is a true uncle to his kids, and he finds himself forced to make things right.

The Manatee Didn’t Say That – Cody, Bonnie, Jim, Johanna

Heading back to Bonnie’s situation, for a time, especially after seeing the manatee, which changed Jim’s life, Bonnie thought maybe she was meant to be with Cody after this ten-year gap. Maybe she should stop running and settle down in some capacity. That idea was strong until she read Cody’s writing, and as his former English teacher and someone who devours books, reading the drivel he wrote turned her off, even if his body was a turn-on.

Add in Johanna showing up and barely missing Bonnie, and it seems she has recommitted to being on the run for as long as she can.

If You Don’t Know, You Better Ask Somebody – Gracie, Egg, Eve, Nick, Neville

While Neville would love to run to Gracie to ask for help or simply ask questions, with him catching her about to have sex with Egg? He realizes she is no longer a potential ally. However, that may not entirely be true.

How so? Well, Gracie isn’t above exploiting Egg to get to Eve and Nick and even holds a forged deed to seemingly get the money she wants to get off the island and see the world. But, between playing hardball, insulting Nick and Eve to their faces, and making it appear like she is bigger than them and Egg, it seems she is going to pay for the disrespect.

Coming Through When It Matters Most – Neville, Rosa, Mendez, Ro, Monte, Yancy, Clasper

Just as it seems Yancy may go to jail, more so because he doesn’t know how or when to shut up than Monte failing him as a loyal, Ro shows up with all the evidence needed to end Mendez’s vie for vengeance. With that, he runs off, and Yancy is once more free to finish the case that Rosa was continuing in his absence.

Unfortunately for her, though, with her goal being trying to find information on the plane or pilot through getting the manifest, she stumbles onto either Nick or Clasper’s associates, who are importing and exporting drugs. Luckily they miss her, but while they are loading and offloading, they also miss Neville, who remembers Rosa and could potentially become a new ally in the case.

Scott Glenn As Jim

Scott Glenn As Jim

Jim is Yancy’s father, who isn’t as extroverted as him, but does have a similar way with words to the point you can see he definitely laid the foundation for who Yancy is today.

Victor Turpin As Monte

Victor Turpin As Monte

Monte is Rogelio’s husband, who he is raising two children, and Monte is also a lawyer.

Bob Clendenin As Clasper

Bob Clendenin As Clasper

Clasper is Nick’s pilot, and seemingly the pilot for many in the drug trade, who so dearly wants to make a friend. Sadly, he is a bit weird, so many either avoid him when possible or outright make it clear they don’t want any type of relationship with him being what they find him useful for.

Highlights

Ro Showing He Has A Heart

I don’t think Ro is given enough credit for being the most authentic character on this show. While he recognizes Yancy is a good person, he is an introvert who often feels overwhelmed by the extrovert who adopted him. Yet, despite how he can push boundaries and be exhausting, this extrovert is also one of the most loving people in Ro’s life besides his husband.

Lest we forget, Yancy was one of the main people who encouraged Ro to pursue or allow himself to be pursued by his now husband. Also, while we don’t know Ro’s family, there is always that chance that, with him leaving his ex-wife and coming out, he may have been disowned, and here Yancy is with open arms, with more than enough love to compensate.

So, when he initially stabbed him in the back, that was devastating, but him then doing the work Yancy has asked him to do to save his friend, it wasn’t enough to make us teary-eyed, but certainly thankful Ro saw the light of day and chose to be there for Yancy when he needed him most just as Yancy was there for him.

Gracie Coming Face To Face With Eve and Nick

Since learning the Dragon Queen’s real name, she has quickly become someone you want to see and hear more from, and with her growing past someone Neville runs to and now having had a face-off with the season’s villain? She is now an individual who doesn’t require him.

But, to add to how cool she is, she comes face to face with Eve and Nick, plays the hell out of Egg, and pseudo-threatens Eve and Nick. Hell, she even clocked them to their face, and it was not only hilarious but pushed you to see her as formidable, even though she hasn’t really shown much for her to be truly seen as so.

This makes the bag over her head and kidnap vibe, which ends the episode, alarming, for you don’t want the fun to end just as it really started to pick up.

On The Fence

Bonnie’s Storyline

Bonnie has fallen, and I would say she is 2nd to only Neville in not being a character who adds much to “Bad Monkey.” Yes, with this episode, it became clear Jim didn’t die but is very much alive, maybe even in tough with his son. However, beyond that? From the oddness of Cody to still questioning how she went from stranger to someone Yancy nearly lost his career because of, there is still this mystery to her.

However, unlike Gracie or Pippa on “Tell Me Lies,” that mystery doesn’t create an allure. It’s the kind of mystery where you feel like they just don’t want to develop her more, for it’ll break the character to do so.

How Neville Will Integrate With The Main Storyline

With Neville escaping from Andros, being found by Rosa, and being someone who can not only say Nick is alive and making moves but also has seen notable evidence of his wrongdoing, it means he is now an essential character. Gone are the days he felt expendable and could easily be cut for now Yancy has a use for him.

The only question is, how will he play that role? Will this make Neville feel like he is on parity, as Keith used to push at the beginning of the season, or will he simply be someone for Yancy to play off of? It’s hard to say since Neville has struggled for most of the season, and this perhaps is the first time there has been reason to hope for something better than what has thus far been delivered.
