I Just Wanted To Make Earn Jealous: Van, Darius
Despite what Van said, she still misses Earn. Yeah, he ain’t s*** but moving on ain’t that easy. So, the idea was to go with her friend Candice to this Drake party, take a picture, to clear her IG of it just being her daughter and Earn, and feel better. However, all that happens is a bunch of stranger danger moments, meeting a man who says he is Drake’s Abuelo and finding Darius talking with her homegirl Nadine. Someone who disappeared after a drug-soaked gummy bear messed her all up.
Some night out.
Commentary
You have to give credit to a show which, at the core of every episode, there is some continuation of a larger story, but the majority of the episode is straight BS. I mean, legit filler since you know barely anything said or done will ever be referenced again. Van wandering what assumingly was Drake’s house, it could have been a rental for what we know, and meeting some old man who claims to be Drake’s grandpa? Really, only this show would do something like that.
And while my pseudo-artsy, look at this eccentric Black production do it, loves the nonsense, at the same time there is a strong part of me that just wants to say, “What the f*** was the point of all that?” Now, don’t get me wrong, I get the episode has commentary about faking for Instagram and is lowkey taking shots at perceptions of those in the business, or who are trying to mooch. Much less how the whole industry, whether on the outside or in, it is all fake and some sort of construct. Yet, at the same time, I return to the mindset of, but are we every going to get some reason story progress or have we passed that part of the season?
Question(s) Left Unanswered
- What happened to Van’s friend from season 1? The bougie one from episode 5.

Highlights
- We learn Van isn’t over Earn yet. Even though, in season 1, it seemed finding someone new or dating wasn’t that difficult. But I guess, as Amanda Seales says, he got to the heart. So now Van is all messed up and don’t know what to do.
- Van’s friend Tammi addressing the cliché of Black men with white women in Hollywood. A low-key read by those involved with Atlanta.
On The Fence
- You ever get the vibe that this show is weird and random enough to be praised, but story wise there isn’t much to really talk about? Like, what is there to hoot and holler about anyone’s growth, arc, or the direction they are taking in their lives? Are these just a bunch of random days put in chronological order featuring some out there moments?
