Film Summary

Thanks to her father, Beauregard, being a hotel magnate who allowed his daughter, Sierra, to be waited on hand and foot, she has a limited ability to do anything for herself. Combine this with dating a  social media influencer named Tad, and Sierra can be borderline insufferable. But, after an accident that leaves her with memory loss, she finds herself in the care of a widow named Jake, from whom she learns all the things her father should have taught her and discovers the kind of love Tad may not be capable of.

Highlights

Recognition That Sierra Was Always Capable Of More, Just Never Trained Or Given Patience

One of the things which becomes clear once Sierra is in Jake’s care is that the only reason she is so privileged could be that no one taught her how to live otherwise. Never mind, didn’t have the patience. In a way, you can almost see Sierra as a young Tanya from “The White Lotus” before her accident. She has access to a ton of money but doesn’t seem to have any friends, and she falls in love with men like Tad, who seem more geared towards using her than loving her.

It makes for a sad story when you think of it, but one which turns into something quite sweet as Jake shows Sierra how the other side lives.

Low Points

Tad And The Social Media Influencer Humor

The jokes used at Tad’s expense, and just the jokes in general, are corny holiday movie jokes. They’re not funny, not even insulting, just lazy.

On The Fence

While A Lot Of It Is Generic, It’s Still Likable

“Falling For Christmas,” like almost all Christmas movies, is formulaic. There is a widow, someone who has a privileged life, a cute kid, an issue with money or a frightening opportunity, and so much more. Now, while “Falling For Christmas” is run by the numbers, that doesn’t mean it isn’t likable. Jake and Sierra don’t have explosive chemistry, but they’re still cute together.

And when it comes to Avy, being that she is the first to really invest in Sierra, even give her the name “Sarah,” when Sierra doesn’t remember her own name, you can enjoy their relationship. Does it get deep, especially with them both losing their mothers at a young age? Nope. But there is just enough there, as with any Christmas or holiday movie, to remind you as much as there is an element of fantasy, some people have real problems.
