Episode 14 Recap (With Spoilers)
The Rise Of Kiyomasa: Jinta, Kiyomasa, Shirayuki
We jump back to 1839 since it appears that seeing Kiyomasa become a sentinel needed to be played out. Note, there isn’t really any special detail added, beyond knowing Kiyomasa had a crush on Shirayuki since he was a kid. That and he was aware of Suzune and felt bad for her since Jinta didn’t spend much time with her.

Beyond that, you learned everything there is to know in episode 1.
Weakness Of The Heart: Jinta, Kiyomasa, Shirayuki
But, one thing we do see that may matter to some is Jinta losing a fight. Mind you, this demon that appeared on the Midori River, Jinta does eventually defeat, but with losing the first time, including losing a blade, this is a notable loss. The kind Kiyomasa gloats about, pushes the idea Jinta should be punished for but Shirayuki has no intention of doing that.
Never mind, when Kiyomasa is given the opportunity to show he earned becoming a sentinel, he doesn’t show up and show out. Jinta does, redeeming himself in the eyes of everyone in the process.
The Kaneomi Sword: Naotsugu
Jumping back to 1862, we watch as Naotsugu shops for a sword and comes across Yatonomori Kaneomi blade. It is considered a cursed sword since its creator, from Jinta’s hometown of Kadono, Kaneomi, allegedly made the blade with the help of his demon wife.
Now, what makes the blade cursed, and whether it is dangerous to possess? That isn’t dove into. This doesn’t add up to more than a shopping trip and Naotsugu experiencing a salesman who knows how to hook a potential sucker.

Wondering What’s Being Built Off This [73/100]

After a short hiatus, this was a strange episode to start off the second half of the season. I don’t feel like we got any additional details about Kiyomasa that were necessary or interesting. His jealousy of Jinya and Shirayuki’s relationship was already established, alongside why his father made him a sentinel. So, beyond showing he had the slightest care for Suzune, what did this episode do?
Even with the Naotsugu scene, does this mean we may learn more about Kaneomi, or the specific sword under his family name? Being that Sword Of The Demon Hunter can be rather inconsistent, or at least non-linear, it’s difficult to fathom what any of this information is supposed to set up, if it is meant to set anything up at all.
Thus, leaving you unsure if this is filler or means something in the long term.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [73/100]
After taking off two weeks, this episode of Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho doesn’t feel like a grand return but a reminder of the weaker episodes of the season, which pushes you to wonder why, out of all shows out there, this one is being blessed with a 24-episode season?
