Friend or Foe? – Shuichi, Claire, Sanbe

In searching for coins in the mountains, Claire and Shuichi encounter Sanbe. Someone with a demon-like appearance, with blades for hands, but there is hope that he might be friendlier than his appearance implies. Unfortunately, though, that isn’t the case. Sanbe has a desire to test his newfound strength, and with it dominating, possibly killing, normal humans, he wants to take on gatherers. However, unlike most with any common sense, Claire and Shuichi approached him, so they are bound to fight.

The Fight Of Their Lives – Shuichi, Claire, Sanbe

Being that, as humans, neither Shuichi or Claire can fight, it makes going against Sanbe, who is talented in multiple forms of martial arts, and creating one for his new form, deadly. However, by sheer will and a slight bit of cunning, they survive and even get one up on Sanbe. Someone who seemingly isn’t looking for a deathmatch as much as to test his strength. So with being spared, it seems a truce is made.

Friends With Murderous Tendencies – Shuichi, Claire, Sanbe

Which couldn’t come at a better time for as Sanbe rests and recovers from a gunshot which broke his arm, another gatherer approaches and with Claire out of Shuichi, in her underwear, nefarious thoughts are expressed. Luckily though, while injured, Sanbe makes quick work of the weirdo, and Claire is able to dig through the corpse to get the man’s phone. Leading to the people who could become their next target if not a villain for the remainder of the series.

It seems the first couple of episodes was about establishing Claire’s trauma and how her vulnerability gave room for Shuichi to bond with her. While, at the same time, question her sanity and work out the kinks between their relationship being based on manipulation, if not blackmail, and Shuichi perhaps liking the idea of Claire’s attention. Much less, feeling a connection that he doesn’t get from his parents and maybe not his friends either.

But, getting to the point of this topic, with it seeming they will now become gatherers like everyone else, should we expect more violence and battles? Be it people on their level or below? Heck, will they tag team with Sanbe at points?

Or what about villains? With the pervert noting he is part of a gang, does that mean we can and should expect a central villain rather than a possible foe of the week? There is just so much to look forward to now.
