Recap
The Next Episode – Russo, Arman, Thony, Garrett, Fiona, Nadia
With Maya’s death comes Garrett ready for a scorched Earth approach to finding out who was responsible. He doesn’t just want Robert, he wants the trigger man, and anyone who gets in his way can be collateral damage. This raises all kinds of red flags for Russo, to the point of wanting to put Garrett on leave, but he refuses.
Naturally, his desire to go hard, fast, and be reckless isn’t welcomed by Arman or Thony, who push back immediately. However, to keep him from catching onto their role, they agree to use new technology which could allow Garrett to get a much-needed recording of Robert’s illegal activities without them wearing a wire. It’s done by laser, and while Arman and Thony were gung-ho about it, when they see Nadia in Robert’s seat? Arman is ready to go immediately and Thony, mid-key, seems more than willing to expose Nadia to save herself.
As you can imagine, Arman shutting that whole situation down doesn’t settle right with Garrett, who wants any and all progress, but even with them fighting, Arman sees Nadia as his wife and won’t let her incriminate herself. Thus leading everyone back to the drawing board and recognizing how things are about to get dangerous, Thony asks Fiona to take the kids to JD’s and stay there for a bit. Assumingly because she sees strength in numbers.
Hanging Out At JD’s House – JD, Jaz, Luca, Chris, Fiona
Despite the last-minute takeover of his new apartment, JD is in high spirits. His daughter is over, he gets to enjoy the kids, and Fiona and him still have the kind of chemistry where they can have fun with one another. However, eventually, JD does ask what is going on, and with all signs pointing to Thony into some potentially dangerous stuff with the FBI, JD makes it clear he doesn’t want Jaz anywhere near that. Thus triggering that fear Fiona had before of JD potentially asserting his authority and maybe even wanting custody of Jaz.
Reconcile To Only Discover New Issues – Nadia, Arman, Thony
With Arman unwilling to have Nadia put on the FBI’s radar, it is agreed she’ll be used, specifically her access to Robert’s office, to get a hold of Robert’s ledger. Now, it is coded to keep things from being easy, but Thony pretty much thinks she can get in and out like when she was taking pictures of Hayak’s stuff during his daughter’s wedding.
Luckily for her, Arman is able to get back in Nadia’s good graces and get the key card so Thony can get the pictures and eventually send them to Garrett. But, while there, she discovers a marriage license between Nadia and Robert, which leads to the question of whether or not they’re divorced? Especially since we learn Nadia left Robert because she was scared he was dangerous, so who knows if she ever served him papers.
Things To Note
Question(s) Left Unanswered
- What’s with Garrett’s paretners disappearing so quickly and never being seen again? Should we even note this new one helping out?
- Wasn’t Russo supposed to get some kind of promotion? What’s stalling that?
- Does JD actually have a girlfriend?
- How much does Jaz know about what’s going on?
- Where was Robert?
- So the guy responsible for the cameras didn’t notice they froze at all? He just kept doing anything besides his job?
What Could Happen Next
- Nadia eventually catching on that Arman is working with the FBI
- Garrett doing something that triggers Robert having someone else killed
Review
Highlights
Nadia Stepping Into A Power Position
We want so much for Nadia. She is a woman who wants to be soft and loving with her husband, but because his focus is split, she has to treat him as the world has often treated her. And as shown by how she talks about Robert, she is at her most comfortable when she feels she is in a position of power, and when that is not the case, it seems she isn’t willing to make herself small for anyone. And with that in mind, it makes me wish she wouldn’t get sidelined so often or made into being Arman’s wife and not much more.
It’s just so much wasted potential.
JD and Fiona
What remains there is a curiosity about why things didn’t work. Yes, distance was an issue, and Fiona questioned how serious JD was about her, but I feel that these are surface-level problems between the two. There is this vibe there is more there, and for whatever reason, they are kicking the can down the road for us to know more about this relationship. Which a part of me is fine with since JD is such a light on a rather dark show, but we got two episodes left this season. Must we wait till season 3 to get the real and total story of what happened between these two?
Thony Making It Clear Who She Is Ultimately Loyal To
While Thony wants to protect Arman and be the mother he sees her as, she has her own kid, and making it clear that Nadia can become a speed bump to her freedom was notable. I’d even say it cracks open the door for the potential of Arman and Thony becoming enemies which may not seem possible now, but we should never forget Garrett has so much on Thony at this point that it eclipses what little she may think she has on him. For just as much as Robert knows about her family and where she lives, let it not be forgotten, Garrett actually triggered the deportation procedure before. So who is really the dangerous one here?
