Recap

It Was A Crazy Day And Night, But So Worth It: Jules, Simone, Danny

Danny, still trying to avoid his issues, like his mom wanting him to come Christmas, decides to go to a party, have a friend set him up, but instead, he meets Simone. A young woman who seems almost like a replica of Leigh, but Black, more bohemian, and also is more than willing to rob you while you sleep. Yet, the day Danny spent with Simone makes up for his stolen wallet and phone. Plus, Jules picks him up the next morning so at least someone, out of the numbers he remembered, showed up to save him.

Question(s) Left Unanswered
  1. What has Jules and Danny’s relationship been like? For example, how were things when they first met? Also, does she see him as a brother, or he see her as a sister?

Onto A Different Plane: Leigh, Amy, Matt

With everyone seemingly dreaming about Matt, Leigh gets a bit envious. So, Amy hooks up Leigh with some drugs containing DMT, and she gets her daughter high. Mind you, with drugs she took before since what mother would allow their child to try something they haven’t?

Anyway, Leigh gets to see Matt, but doesn’t necessarily get the full experience she wants. She doesn’t get to touch him, but to see him, hear him talk, that’s enough for Leigh.

Question(s) Left Unanswered
  1. What led to Amy smoking that drug previously?

The Outsider: Jules, Leigh, Amy

Jules hems and haws about the idea of going over Amy’s for Christmas. On one hand, she was raised loving the holiday but, on the other, Leigh is there. Someone who knows how to dig the knife even when no one is saying or threatening her.

For example, she, once again, uses Matt’s death to manipulate someone, Jules, and tries to push everything to be about her. Specifically, Jules reminding Leigh that this Christmas is hard for her too, since she lost Matt, but being that Leigh has ownership over grief, she decides to gaslight Jules. Also, add in Jules is sober for the first Christmas in a long time, it makes Leigh’s usual selfishness too much.

Then, add in all Amy wants is just her girls happy together, and for them to come together, it makes this fighting too much and coerces her to retire to her room.

Highlights

Jules Calling Out Leigh For Using Matt To Guilt People

Leigh has used Matt to force Danny to talk to her and guilt Jules into coming home – you gotta wonder, like Jules said, when will it stop? For grieving her husband is one thing, and there can be some bending on her trying to own all the grief in the room, and decide when and where she can share it. However, using Matt’s death to have people bend to her will? Oh, that’s low.

A Reminder Of How Hard The Holiday Is For Amy

Amy glad to see Jules and stammering.

In the first season, it was made clear that while Amy loves her children, liking them can be very difficult. So to not have Matt, it means she won’t get to have that fantasy holiday moment she seems to crave. Instead, she will have two daughters, who can barely get along, bickering, slinging personal attacks, and perhaps making her wonder why did she ever have children?

On The Fence

Simone Maybe Being A One Episode Character

While a part of me would love to see Danny and Jules together, I must admit Simone stormed in and seemed like someone who should have stuck around. Granted, she does give off Leigh vibes, but that’s only because she is direct, a bit selfish, yet seeing her underbelly makes it all worth it. But, with most phones having trackers, there is always the chance Danny may try to get his phone back and discover her.
