Whenever a film is based on a true story there are a few guarantees. The first being the story will likely be long so the writers can embellish where they need to, and the second guarantee is that for every interesting moment in the film, you are guaranteed at least 10-20 minutes of boredom. Jamesy Boy is no different, but unfortunately, while other films make up for those 10-20 minutes by using jokes or drama, Jamesy Boy just gives same old same, same old.

Though perhaps I shouldn’t be reliant on one film, or show, being a reason to take interest in any actor’s career, especially after watching The Quiet Ones, just because of Olivia Cooke, with me seeing a handful of Taissa Farmiga work, I felt confident going in. For, thus far, she hasn’t done a film, or show, in which she was bad, though this isn’t to say the production itself might not have been terrible. So, with this in mind, I gave this a shot.

Preconceived Notions

Naturally, if a movie presents itself as us getting to know two young people who have been together for 6 years, you know there is going to be drama. After all, they seem to only be in high school or college and been together forever. Question is, though: what will tear them apart and, will the reason for reconciliation make sense? Though they could always go down the road of showing what keeps two young people together for 6 years, but I doubt that is an option.
