Official Synopsis

ELI is the story of a young boy plagued with an unknown, debilitating illness that requires him to live completely sealed off from the outside world. After exhausting every option, his parents put their trust – and his life – in the hands of a doctor whose experimental, cutting edge treatments at her clean house facility may hold Eli’s last hope. As Eli undergoes the tremendously intense process that could potentially cure him, he begins to be haunted by experiences that make him question who he can trust and what is lurking inside the house.

Cast Members

Charlie Shotwell, Max Martini, Sadie Sink, with Lili Taylor and Kelly Reilly

Our Take

The key elements to a horror film is a protagonist you can care about and a monster that scares you. Eli seems to have that whole idea down. For with Eli (Charlie Shotwell) being a sickly child, seemingly with no friends, beyond Hayley (Sadie Sink), it makes it so you quickly want to latch on since you feel sorry for him. Especially considering he seems to have an immune deficiency that makes it so he burns like a vampire in the sun if he goes outside.

Which, when you think about it, that could be what is happening here. After all, Eli seems like more than your run of the mill horror featuring some helpless kid who will be running away from demons. Who is to say, by some points of view, he isn’t a demon himself and his parents are trying to have him exorcised without him knowing?

But that’s just the paranoia speaking since, as much as I’m getting into horror increasingly, at the same time, I still hate being scared.
