A seasoned Lifetime movie if I had ever seen one would go something like this. A deadly affair that leads to the ultimate loss of possible interrelational development— and a baby.

Film Summary

The creators taunt the beautiful story of a married couple at a high point in their lives. By introducing the doting pregnant wife, Shayla, and her preoccupied husband, Marcus, the audience is met with conflict off the bat. The interests of Marcus’ bar Flirt and home immediately conflict, especially after introducing an unforeseen vocational counterpart. Raquel, aka Rocky, is the primary disruptor of peace, while Tamika and her best friend’s grief group unite. Everything from threats, coercion and manslaughter was an option to the psycho-bitch Rocky. From Raquel’s perspective, it was to ensure a married man was rightfully hers.

Marcus has the support of a friend and co-owner, Swiss, during the tumultuous undertaking of two major commitments. Raquel is seemingly a gem at the start with her connections and grit until malignant intentions are revealed.

Things To Note

Why It’s “R” Rated

  • Dialog: Mild expletives
  • Violence: Gun usage
  • Sexual Content: Mildly graphic scenes
  • Miscellaneous: Depictions of severe emotional crises

Question(s) Left Unanswered

  1. Was Raquel being honest about being pregnant with Marcus’ baby in the end?

Collected Quote(s)

“He’s the right one right now!”  — Raquel Robinson

Character Descriptions

Please Note: This character guide is not an exhaustive list of every cast member, and character descriptions may contain what can be considered spoilers.

Marcus

“Swiss (Lem Collins)” and “Marcus (Dujuan Austin),” Infidelity, directed by Sherell Brown, 2023, (BET Interactive, LLC)

A handsome young man who perseveres to juggle his new business venture and, in his words, a pregnant “needy” wife. Marcus displays a strong backbone but eventually falls under pressure when faced with a determined businesswoman. He fights to keep his relationship intact despite his commitment to work.

  • You May Also Know The Actor From Being: Dujuan Austin Jr. in the series “Chicago Fire” and Orlando in “I Got Problemz.”

Shayla

“Shayla (Brianna Butler),” Infidelity, directed by Sherell Brown, 2023, (BET Interactive, LLC)

The burgeoning housewife deals with constant paranoia about her husband’s possible extramarital affairs. After she loses their baby, she deals with constant grief and falls into a deep depression but can fight her way through it. With regained confidence, Shayla finds herself faltering in commitment but in the end, comes back around.

  • You May Also Know The Actor From Being: Lindsay in the movie “Deadly Due Date” and Maya in “The Walking Dead” series.

Raquel (Rocky)

“Raquel (Sarah Cigan),” Infidelity, directed by Sherell Brown, 2023, (BET Interactive, LLC)

Rocky is a highly neurotic alcohol provider and connection for Marcus’ upstart. She is extremely manipulative and lacks empathy. With the input of Raquel’s brother, the audience is made aware of her obsessive tendencies with past partners.

Review

Our Rating: | Mixed (Divisive) |

Notable Performances or Moments

Dujuan Austin (Marcus) was able to portray the mixed emotions of a man in an increasingly complicated marriage. Sarah Cigan (Raquel) compliments the film with her extreme meltdowns and persuades the viewer with severe irrationality.

Highlights

After the first birthday of their unborn child, the married couple can reconcile when an unmarked baby-care package arrives and finally connect again. This moment calls attention to the beauty and strength of their relationship despite all the hardships.

Low Points

The most uncomfortable moments surround Raquel’s delusional pursuit of the married Marcus and his estranged wife. If the viewer can deal with her abrupt and strange come-ons to a married man, they will thoroughly enjoy the movie.

On The Fence

Infedelity, directed by Sherell Brown, 2023, (BET+)

The relationship between Marcus and Shayla typically takes place within a bed or kitchen and is not explored much. Considering the duration of the film, the creators added more value to the connections between side characters. More development between the couple might evoke more meaningful emotion from viewers when the two meander on opposite paths.
