Recap

Other Bounty Hunters or Jawas – What’s More Dangerous?: The Mandalorian, The Child

With a tracker still on the child, the name we’re using for the commonly referred to “Baby Yoda,” it means the Mandalorian is forced to fight off random bounty hunters. But, to make matters worse, Jawas have stripped his ship which leaves him stuck on this unnamed planet for longer.

Negotiations & Saying Goodbye: Kuiil, The Mandalorian, The Child

Due to the Jawas outnumbering The Mandalorian, he finds himself unable to handle things in his preferred method. Thus forcing him to ask Kuiil for help in negotiating with the Jawas. This ultimately leads to the Mandalorian having to face off with a mudhorn, to get its egg, in order to trade for his ship parts.

That fight whoops his ass. Almost to the point of you questioning if the hype around the Mandalorian is real. Making the child coming along because, never mind the bounty, a saving grace since the child is force sensitive. Thus giving the Mandalorian enough time to stab the mudhorn and deliver the egg.

The Child (Baby Yoda) after using the force to life a mudhorn.

Leading to Kuiil helping the Mandalorian rebuild his ship and be on his way.

On The Fence

He Got His Ass Whooped A Lot, Didn’t He?

Considering how Greef Karga hyped the Mandalorian to the client, then how Kuiil made him seem like a killing machine, Jawas and the mudhorn whooping his ass seemed shocking. The Jawas since they may have weapons, but don’t look like they should be able to compete with someone with damn near military training.

Then with the mudhorn, I get that he didn’t know what he was getting into and then the mud complicated things, but for someone who was shown as such a badass in episode 1, was this about dialing things back? Perhaps showing him as vulnerable and not this overpowered character who may not still have things to learn?

Either way, while it is still early enough to make adjustments, I won’t pretend the side-eye isn’t strong.

Trajectory – Declining: While the cuteness of the child is definitely a selling point, the Mandalorian getting his ass whooped, consistently, took away from one of the main selling points beyond future merchandise.
