Plot Recap

Getting To Know You (Again) – Roxy, Rudy

With it beings years since Roxy has seen Rudy, at first, she doesn’t recognize him, and this breaks his little heart. However, by the time Roxy is being taken out of the labyrinth to recover, she is able to realize who he is, and it seems to leave her a bit flustered.

Now, it isn’t clear how big the age gap is between Rudy and Roxy, or if age gaps even matter in their world, but she recognizes he is a man now. This makes him being tall as he is, smart as he is, powerful as he is, appealing. But, Roxy is still shy so at best, she can come up with ways for them to spend time together but as for checking if he has a girlfriend, a wife, is about to have kids? Not a word is spoken by anyone.

However, this doesn’t mean Paul doesn’t peep all of this and tries his best to validate and even push Rudy to be okay with maybe having Sylphie and Roxy. Of course, there is no good time to have that conversation, since Rudy is usually right up under Roxy like a puppy who recently imprinted on someone. But, as he tries to figure out a way to the 5th stratum, Paul sneaks over and uses some metaphors to hope Rudy will catch on.

It’s not clear if he does, but with him figuring out where the hidden transportation circle is, he is one step closer to reuniting with his mom.

Roxy and Rudy’s Feelings And The Complications Of It

Rudy (Yumi Uchiyama)

It’s cute watching Rudy try to navigate his crush and Roxy do the same. For Rudy, he has a wife, a kid on the way, yet at the same time, he can’t deny his feelings for Roxy. Then with Roxy, the child is now a man and so much time has passed. In many ways, you can see this all as a setup for Rudy to understand his father better.

But, what I hope this also does is tap into what the culture is for dating, relationships, and marriage. Yes, Sylphie brought up the idea of a concubine, but that was when she expected to be unable to have a child. Now, with one on the way, how will she feel about Rudy wanting another partner? Never mind someone who met Rudy before her, is older, and who he has loved and worshipped for most of his life?

It’ll be interesting to see how Zenith also reacts to this, because it did not appear she was too happy when she found out about Lillia, and the apple not falling too far from the tree could be upsetting for her.
