Plot Recap

A New Pep In His Step – Rudy

With no longer having erectile dysfunction, being an A-Rank adventurer, having money, and being one of the strongest and smartest around, Rudy has a newfound pep in his step. Everyone notes it, and while he isn’t explicit about what was wrong, he does reveal that he is not only cured but also begins getting used to telling people he is getting married.

With that in mind, it seems Rudy has been working on his relationship with Paul via letters. Now, we’re not told what they have spoken about, but it seems that Rudy, in the process of starting a new family, wants to make sure the one he has is intact.

Being that Rudy didn’t date in his past life and wasn’t an active enough member of his family to know what it takes to get into a marriage, especially a successful one, he is a bit lost and unsure who to go to? Zanoba hasn’t had a relationship, and while Cliff is still with Elinalise, whom he affectionately calls Lise, that relationship is nothing like Rudy’s, and Elinalise and Sylphie are not the same.

So, with that in mind, he goes to Nanahoshi, who would rather not have the small talk Rudy is offering, for it reminds her what she is missing out on. However, she makes clear that it is best not to overthink it, because the other person generally wants to spend time with you.

But Nanahoshi is of another world, and between Cliff and Zanoba, Rudy gets it in his head he needs to get a house, so that is what he does. He finds one that looks like it should belong to the president or head of the Ranoa University of Magic. The catch is, however, that it is haunted.

Luckily, it is haunted by a doll that Zanoba can subdue, and with Rudy’s permission, he begins to investigate it.

While Sylphie is thankful for Rudy buying a house, fixing it up, and the thought behind it, the timing isn’t the best. Yes, she wants to marry him, but one issue she has is that she is still committed to the princess, and they plan to stay in the country for two years. Then, even when they leave, they won’t be in a rush to Asuna, so the timeline for Sylphie to settle down and just be a wife, having as many kids as Rudy wants, is uncertain.

But, for at least two years, they will be in the same place, and with Rudy swearing to help the princess, even if they aren’t home often, they will always have a home to come back to.

Question(s) Left Unanswered

  1. Are we ever going to get an update on Rudy’s mom or Eris?
  2. With Rudy having newfound confidence that seems to be appealing, will this lead to temptation?

Highlights

Rudy Working On His Relationship With His Father

While it was just a throwaway line, it doesn’t discount how wonderful it is that Rudy is sending letters back and forth to his dad and working on that relationship. As repeatedly said, this is Rudy’s second chance at creating some kind of normalcy, even if it is in a world with magic and dragons. So, I feel that him not hiding away, avoiding conflict, but confronting issues, communicating, and creating a path towards reconciliation are huge.

Of course, it’s easier to do when that other person is miles away, if not a continent, but that could also be an excuse not to reach out, so good on Rudy.

Rudy Going From Lustful To Committed

“Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” can be summed up in Rudy trying not to repeat past mistakes and live a life worth living. But, it is one thing for Rudy to be more social, connect with his family, and be a leader and a fighter compared to someone who could draw notable attention from women of all species.

Now, this isn’t to say or imply we want Rudy to cheat, but it will be interesting to see how he operates as a person who wasn’t seen or treated as attractive in his past life to now being someone whose confidence is attractive and could lead to unexpected attention. Add in he is dating for the first time, and how Rudy handles all these new stimuli is definitely going to be a highlight in the second half of this season.
