Episode 2 “Roger & Munchy” Storylines/ Recap
VP Of Creative, Who Dated A Grown Man In 8th Grade: Alani
Because Alani is Alani, she is the VP of Creative at her dad’s company, and this role, seemingly known by employees but rarely done by Alani, leads to her having a confession. You see, the production team was looking to make a Gen Z version of Clueless, and being that Alani went to private school and fit a lot of what the team was looking for, she gave her two cents. What no one expected, though, was her detailing being a teenager who dated a fully grown man and them all becoming privy to a crime. Never mind something they have to question if their boss knew about.
Hurricane Talullah: Maia, Talullah, Pauline, Alyssa’s Assistant
Taking Talullah on as a client, while being friends, is a lot. As Alyssa’s assistant pushes Maia to do, Talullah is the type who needs to have concrete, enforced by steel, type boundaries – which Maia doesn’t have. Hence, her jilling off in Maia’s bed, inviting this crazy influencer, Pauline, over to her house, after being caught stealing her purse, and Talullah just causing massive amounts of disruption – without even making Maia a dime yet.
Talk S***, And See What Happens: Maia, Paulena, Talullah, Dylan, Mimi, Andrew, Charlie
Pauline coming over to Maia’s house for dinner, cooked by Dylan, ends up being a total mess. As to be expected of any associate of Talullah, Paulena is messy, and between dangling filing a police report on Talullah for stealing her purse, later reporting Dylan after coercing him to do cocaine with her, she seemingly is about to have a Rick James type of night with everyone.
This leads to Maia having to out crazy the crazy, which initially works, and Paulena leaves. But, when she goes back to give Talullah the purse that she initially stole from her, Paulena overhears everything. She learns Talullah lied about being an addict, that Maia and Dylan were in this toxic relationship, and with feeling played, she feels the need to expose people on her social media.
As all this happens, Charlie is trying to navigate his client, Mimi’s, latest project, a music video where she will have Zendaya play her mom – if Zendaya ever gets back to her. Since Zendaya isn’t responding quickly, Charlie tries to get tea and only ends up talking mess, which gets back to Mimi, and it leads to Charlie getting fired. To boot, his friend with benefits, Andrew, is going on a date, so who knows how long it might be till he has to find someone new – and a good top is hard to find.

The Feeling That The Antics Of The Character Could Get Old Quick [75/100]
One of the slowly but surely emerging issues on I Love LA is that it doesn’t seem to have much heart. It has hijinks, zany characters, wild moments, but it lacks that core feeling that these are just people trying to make it in Los Angeles. You don’t get this sense of everyone trying to live out their dreams, and go with the flow as they try to manage their career, often playing a small part in someone else achieving theirs.
For whether it is Alani revealing with glee that she was in a very inappropriate relationship, the madness of Talullah, or Charlie being stripped to his underwear when fired, I’m not saying any of this is impossible, but as we said with episode one, the vibe of I Love LA is akin to a YouTube series. But what we didn’t expect so soon is for the shtick to get old,
Overall
Our Overall Rating [75/100]
I don’t want to say I Love LA could have potentially peaked, or may not live up to its potential, but as it seems like this show may mostly be about presenting one crazy day after the next, without a reminder these characters are supposed to be real people, I would say I Love LA could become short-lived.
