Meanwhile, In Vault 31, 33, and 32: Norm, Bud, Reg, Chet, Betty, Steph
Things down in vaults 31 to 33 remain uneventful. Betty is still worried about the water supply, which isn’t getting any better. But, alongside that issue is a restless Reg who wants to build a group, do something, but he is struggling to find who could be his people.
Meanwhile, Steph is an overseer, and considering she isn’t the most tech-savvy or people person, it doesn’t seem like the best fit. To make matters worse, Chet is still around, raising her kid, feeling useless, and requires being threatened to stay in line.

Which leaves Norm and Bud. Bud is trying to convince Norm to either go into a cryo chamber or let him kill him quickly, but Norm chooses neither. At first, it looks like he was willing to starve to death. However, instead, he decides to break Bud’s poison weapon and thaw out all of the people who were supposed to be awakened every 30 years. Thus ruining Bud’s plans.
The Lady & The Ghoul – The Adventure Continues: Lucy, Cooper, Barb, Janey, Kate, Robert House
Things are split, as usual, between Cooper’s past before the bombs and his present day with Lucy. As we saw at the end of the last season, Cooper and Lucy are following Hank, and in this episode, they come across Vault 24 and discover Hank has taken data on a brain-controlling microchip. One that Hank used on someone’s son to try to push Lucy to go home, but she believes her father must be brought to justice.
Back in the past, we see Cooper try to navigate Barb speaking with Robert House, amongst others, about dropping nuclear bombs, as Kate pressures Cooper to use Barb, and his own fame, to get close to Mr. House. All the while, Cooper just wants to take Janey and run but, with learning about this different side to his wife, he isn’t sure what to do.
The Suit Still Fits: Hank
With not worrying about Lucy, never mind Cooper, Hank goes to the old Vault-Tec offices, which barely look touched, yet also don’t have the mountain of dust you’d expect either. There, he takes off his power armor, gets into a suit, and seemingly is ready to pick up where he left off. He is working for a promotion, specifically by perfecting the brain control chip, and he speaks into a global comms to someone, pushing the idea that, if he doesn’t get promoted, there might be consequences.

Review and Commentary
Highlights
Minimal Rust Upon Return [85/100]
A second season, to me, doesn’t necessarily need a grandeur premiere unless the first season was eh. Fallout returned, knowing it is a hit, so instead of a slew of big moments, we basically got a continuation of what was given in season 1.
To me, this was wonderful since it meant you didn’t have an abundance of new characters being introduced, while you are trying to remember who is who, the names of places, and items. Doing that often makes things feel overwhelming, and while it may set up unraveling everything over the course of the season, Fallout doesn’t need that.
I’d say, the show balances that it comes from a property, which is soon to be 30 years old. It recognizes that, in 2025, you can stream past episodes at will, and a huge swath of people have made recap videos. Point blank: Fallout returns, operating as if it doesn’t need to re-earn your interest; it knows you just wanted more.
Not Trying To Catch Us Up On Everyone [83/100]
As much as I would love to know what’s going on with The Brotherhood of Steel, I think skipping them in this episode shows respect to the organization. It makes it clear their importance isn’t on par with the vault dwellers. They have weapons that would allow them to be formidable in a war. Their organization spans across the United States, and isn’t focused on comical underlings of one Vault-Tec exec, whose biggest issues seem to be not only water, but incest.
So with that in mind, they seemingly will get their rightful focus in future episodes.
Fleshing Out What Led To The Bombs Dropping [81/100]
One of the most interesting storylines of the show is fleshing out what led to the bombs dropping. For one, the tone of the characters in the past, involved with the storyline, mixed with their qualities, it is often better than what we get in other pieces of the show. Secondly, because of Cooper, we not only get an insider but someone to bridge the before, during, and after. We see the effect it had on him, and with Barb and Janey missing, you get not only the emotion of him being unable to stop it, but losing something greater than himself as punishment.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [83/100]

With one episode, unlike the usual three released to start a season, I would take note that means, not only for money reasons, but regarding quality, Prime Video is trying to stretch this out. And with maintaining the quality we saw from season 1, and not trying to peak and slow down descent early on, we’re in for a ride.
