Episode 6: A Trap and a Rout

Overview

With Adlet placed into a corner, drastic decisions are made so that he can get some more time to try to convince the other braves of his innocence.

Characters & Story (with Commentary)

Topic 1: All Evidence Points To You – Hans and Adlet

We begin from where the last episode ended and everyone, except Nashetania, pretty much can’t see any option besides Adlet being the first one in the temple, and him being the one who put up the barrier. He tries and tries to come up with theories, but to no avail. Hell, he even tries to get some sort of character witnesses but, again, only Nashetania vouches for him. Fremy decides to, either to save herself or because she honestly believes Adlet is guilty, to let him hang out to dry, and Goldof pretty much goes for his neck. Showing that his jealous has really hit that point that he will do anything, and possibly everything, to rid himself of the competition.

Topic 2: Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures – Adlet & Fremy

So, with Goldof trying to kill him, and Hans blocking his exit, Adlet uses one of his smoke grenades to get behind Fremy and stick a needle in her to knock her out. From there, he threatens to kill her and it seems like he is the actual 7th Brave. However, after he makes his escape, it becomes clear he probably isn’t. It also becomes clear that, despite how Fremy wouldn’t vouch for him, she does care about him in some manner.

Something which can be seen because, as Adlet escaped with Fremy over his shoulder, Hans through a dagger into Adlet’s back, which eventually causes him to pass out. But when he awakens he finds the blade gone, and Fremy, while he was asleep, using some of her jacket to treat the wound. Leading to another odd moment with Fremy, her asking why he became a brave.

Now, the exact answer will probably be in the next episode, but while Adlet is knocked out we get hints as to what his answer maybe. It begins with us seeing his mother, and a friend named Rainer. Then it continues with us learning that, back then, Adlet didn’t have much of an interest in fighting and was completely satisfied managing crops with his mom. But then we jump forward in time and see him looking famished and meeting his master. Someone who he meets with blood on his clothes. Thus leading to the explanation for many things, such as why Adlet continually says he is the strongest in the world, and why he smiles so much. The answer: Because that is what he was trained to do. The quote below states what his master said, and how it seems Adlet lives.

Collected Quote(s)

“If you want to be strong, smile! He who can smile, even when he’s so sad that he wants to die, when it’s so painful that he wants to give it all up and run away, is the one who becomes strong.”
