A Wedding, A Honeymoon, and A Night To Remember: Cliff, Elinalise, Rudy, Roxy, Sylphie

Elinalise and Cliff finally get married, but they aren’t the only ones who are celebrating. Elinalise, being sex positive as she is, asks Rudy to get something from the Kingdom of Asura for her, to make sure Cliff is riled up and ready for their wedding night, and in exchange, she’ll plant the seed so Rudy can have a threesome with his wives.

Now, nothing explicit is shown in the episode, but it seems Rudy and Elinalise both got what they wanted.

Nothing But Love In This House: Rudy, Roxy, Sylphie, Aisha, Lilia, Zenith, Norn

Because of the mass teleportation event 7 years ago, neither Aisha nor Norn got their 10^th birthday celebration (remember, in Rudy’s world, they often celebrate every 5^th birthday). So, upon realizing this, Rudy figures out that was the party Paul wanted to throw and decides to do so with the rest of the adults.

But, on top of throwing the party, he also does something notable for Roxy. Because she didn’t get the same smooth entrance into the family as Sylphie, she longs to be closer to Norn. Also, she is saddened she didn’t get some type of ceremony, even if her culture doesn’t make it a big deal.

So, as part of distracting the girls while Lilia, Sylphie, and Zenith, to a point, decorate the house, Roxy and Rudy take the girls fishing, and Roxy teaches Norn how to fish. This brings them closer, but the icing on the cake is that Sylphie and Rudy bought Roxy a hat she was looking at while they were buying the girls clothes.

That already made for a beautiful evening, as the girls had their celebration and Roxy got a new hat, but then Zenith showed notable progress. She may not be able to speak, but by patting the girls’ heads, showing the type of motor control beyond doing something routine and expressing some form of emotion? Tears across the board. Including for Lilia, who is thankful for how much Zenith accepts and bonds with Aisha, despite the circumstance that brought her into this world.

The Episode May Bring Tears To Your Eyes [83/100]

I know we’ve been frustrated with how slice of life the last few episodes have been, but honestly, I feel like this episode is the payoff. Zenith interacting with her family, not just doing a task that is in front of her, is MAJOR. Especially considering, regarding Lilia, while Zenith is likely not the type to hold anything against Aisha, her non-verbally making peace with Lilia is worth crying over.

But I think what really got to me was Sylphie furthering the story regarding why she is so lucky she met Rudy when she did. In the last episode, the luck was presented in terms of the romance, her helping him get past his ED, and ending up his first wife. However, this episode reminded you that it is because of Roxy teaching Rudy that he was able to teach Sylphie, and she has survived all she has. Her love for Rudy was so abundant that he learned to not only love Sylphie as she needed, but also gained the patience to teach her.

It all is truly so beautiful, and I would even shout out the moment where Lilia allowed Aisha to be part of the family and not subservient. You can tell she sometimes internalizes her mother’s criticisms and pushing the idea she is an other, so getting the chance to experience the same privileges Norn gets was huge. Especially since only Rudy is consistently pushing the idea and Aisha often gets reprimanded for forgetting her place.

This episode forced me to remember that while I love the show for its action sequences, it is also because it is so well balanced. It builds out its world with varying cultures and attitudes, and develops its characters so that they all may contain some form of complexity, with different objectives, insecurities, and more.

Which is what makes episodes like this tear-inducing, for while it is all animated, with elves, magic, mistresses, and more, the heart of the show isn’t buried deep. You can hear the thumping, be relaxed by the rhythm, and everything the show presents to you makes it so your investment isn’t just about life or death, but the living, which happens when characters aren’t in a dungeon or battlefield.
