Pares Ratliff: I Hate People Summary
A new voice on the comedy scene, Chicago comic Pares Ratliff, among many topics, talks about being from Chicago, race, male/female relationships, the disadvantages of earning “cool points,” gives props to Amy Schumer for her support (and jokes how, if he were able to get pregnant by her, he’d be all about trapping her for her money), and ends with a story about getting in trouble with his mom for playing (his) version of Super Mario Bros.
On The Fence
He’s Not Ready Yet!
Interesting comic, but he wasn’t ready for an hour-long special. He needs to be on the circuit more to have better jokes and observations. He has potential, but to grow, he needs to work on sharpening his jokes and timing and how he segues from one topic to another. I think that he should have gone with a half-hour special. At least he likes to interact with the audience and seems very personable. I’d like to see what his next special will be like in a couple of years to see what kind of progress he’s made.
Pares Ratliff: I Hate People Overall: Mixed (Divisive)
I don’t think he picked the right title for this special. “I’ve Got Issues” sounds more like the theme of the special, versus riffing on how he hates the ways of some people. I LOVE watching stand-up comedy, but for this premiere, it’s not a laugh-a-minute, although I, and his audience, did get a few chuckles out of it.
