  1. Hi Amari! I just read the news about Claire, too. It seems Antonia Thomas wanted to leave the show (and wasn’t forced out or written off against her will like Dr. Melendez was). Andreas, it makes your prediction that Claire stays in Guatemala looking really good! But I’m so sad about Claire leaving!! Who’s going to take her place? Dr. Osma, Dr. Lim’s lover. He’s been promoted to season regular starting in season 5. Didn’t see that one coming!

Hey Amari, is there any way to get rid of this “Top Articles” box to the right that followed my reading this review from the very top all the way down to the comments section. It wouldn’t let me click it out like all the other boxes, and it changes between Shadow House, Ready to Love, Flashback, Run the World, The Chi, and Carnaval, non-stop, so it is really distracting.

Speaking of distracting, every single scene between Morgan and Alex distracts me from the quality scenes on The Good Doctor. I am so sick of those two!!! And you’re right, Amari, that TGD missed a great opportunity to explore Morgan’s heartbreak of not being able to perform surgery anymore. Instead, the writers had to think up a storyline for Alex, so they forced Morgan to be with him. Ugh!

  2. For one, Mateo is coming in as a series regular:

Also, with the show losing their female lead and Lea not being a doctor, my best guess is that screen time that isn’t consumed by Mateo will be divided between the remaining female characters Lea, Lim and Morgan. They all have enough stuff to deal with now.

Side note: Morgan wasn’t quite done with surgery yet… Stubborn as ever, that tough girl.

  3. I just saw the news Claire’s character won’t come back for season 5. It makes me wonder who is going to take up that screen time and if she will end up staying?

  4. Yeah, a Sony Pictures executive was thinking aloud about the possibility of a spin-off, but they did not sound like there was an actual project in the pipeline.

An alternative explanation for a farewell scene might be Shaun and Lea staying away from San Jose for a while. Showrunner David Shore did that with House MD twice to disrupt the routines. Once, House was treated in a mental health institution for several episodes, another time he served a prison sentence for driving a car into the living room of his love interest.

Thinking of it… Lea got the better deal when Shaun had the idea to relieve his pain on the Striped Tomato back in 3.18 Heartbreak. ?

Oh, and since you asked recently – as some behind-the-scenes pictures suggest, filming in “Guatemala”, British Columbia, might have included a small wooden church…

  5. Well, there is also the possibility of a spin-off. I thought I heard a rumor that they were considering that, but without mentioning Claire specifically.

  6. Your sentiment about Claire working with Dr. Saravia stayed with me, Amari, when I rewatched the episode. Not only share I your assessment, but I might also submit that this could be a game changer – as in Claire choosing to stay behind when the missions ends.

When not delivering bad news, Claire is portrayed as enjoying the experience of working there and the natural connection with Dr. Savaria seems very “convenient”. Claire never clicked so easily with any senior doctor before.

As I wrote in a comment on the previous episode, Claire’s arc for this season was finished early: she found peace with her mother’s legacy, performing on stage in 4.11; she made peace with her father in 4.18. The character’s central conflict, her troubled past, has been resolved.

Thus, the emotional hug between Claire and Shaun in the trailer for 4.20 gives me the idea that Claire’s journey in fact might come to an end, as far as St. Bonaventure is concerned. But would the show dare to write off another major character?

  7. Now, what a nintriguing stew the TGD chefs put on the oven here. The ingredients are quite spicy!

There’s Glassy who obviously did not bother to tell anybody about his break-up but chooses this moment to be there for Lea if she wants to talk? After avoiding her actively for months. Looks like a silent cry for help – by Glassy. But Lea isn’t ready to talk about her grief either.

Then there’s Andrews, who got “inspired” the night before? Changes are the inspiration was a big fight with his wife Isabel about the many failed IVFs. Thus, Andrews being in the need for a place to stay and some distraction.

Morgan’s nerves are wearing thin, courtesy of the mixed signals Park sends and the situation on site in general. This icy heart is cracking under heat stress.

Seems as there’s a lot of hidden pain floating around in that stew. At least, Lea’s pain is now out in the open. But his sure will sent Shaun into a tailspin since it reactivates his biggest fear – being abandoned (even if it’s only temporary).

So, bring out the flashlights to illuminate the characters’ darkest spots when the power goes out next week?
