Storyline Recap

Hello Old Friend – Norman, Charles

While Charles has operated mainly on not having his face seen or voice heard for most of the show, maybe his career, it seems that with Zina breaking his safety protocols, Charles has loosened up. But when it comes to Norman, who seems to be more than a supplier but a collaborator, Charles has no choice but to meet since Norman can’t work fast with access to only one arm.

So, while in Budapest, they designed a boot to hide Charles’ newest rifle. While Charles did the design, Norman did the coding, with Charles typing the numbers in. After 24 hours, Norman 3D printed a non-metal gun that Charles could use eight times, and between practicing and the events mentioned below, he nearly used all of the shots.

False Promises – Angela, Bianca, Paul, Larry, Vince

With all the chaos of the last episode, Bianca decides to visit Paul, who is staying with his ex-wife, Angela, before she pushes further. As you can imagine, Bianca isn’t happy about this, especially since Angela is ready to get in Bianca’s face and do everything but curse her out or get into a physical fight she’d surely lose. But, while questions of why Angela and Paul broke up arise, Bianca tries to fix her relationship, making it seem whatever we see Charles do in one episode, Bianca will do in the next.

But, while trying to get her personal life back to normal, Bianca also pushes Larry to give up his brother, with Vince by her side. Needless to say, with Larry harming her daughter, Bianca takes routes that are far from legal to get answers and outright lies to Larry after torturing him for who knows how long. Thus, Bianca is given the lead that Norman is in Budapest.

Dead Men Can’t Snitch – Norman, Charles, Bianca, Vince, Zina

Though Charles has been rather careful thus far, he can’t let go of Zina, pushing the idea that Norman could be in their pocket somehow. So, before Bianca arrived, he asked questions, and Norman gave far too many answers, even if he lacked specifics, which was enough for Charles. So when Bianca and Vince capture Norman, Charles puts a bullet in his head.

After that, Charles is on the run, and while Bianca gets close to capturing or killing him, she fails. But, on a positive note for her, Charles doesn’t get back to Estonia. He takes a break in someone’s barn, is captured, tied up, and is now in deep trouble.

Other Noteworthy Information

  • It seems more and more like the soldier assumed dead might be Charles.

New Character Descriptions

Norman

Richard Dormer as Norman

While we’ve seen Norman and certainly heard him before this episode, this is when his expertise matched his reputation. From coding and 3D printing guns to building designs that allow people like Charles to do their jobs and be at the top of their professions, Norman is highly sought out in both the criminal underground and by government agencies.

Angela

Diveen Henry as Angela

Angela is Paul’s ex-wife and, assumingly, the mother of Paul’s two sons.

Question(s) Left Unanswered

  1. Why did Paul and Angela break up, and how did Bianca end up with Paul?

Highlights

Norman’s Craftmanship

We didn’t give much credit or note to Norman’s work before this. But seeing Charles draw up plans and Norman execute them, while noting limitations, gave you a sense that this man is wanted, positively and negatively, for a reason. His intelligence is off the charts, and he is forward-thinking in his work. it makes it sad, in some ways, that he had to die because he truly knew too much.

Bianca’s Dark Side

Watching Bianca torture Larry and the back and forth with Angela allowed us to see a new side to her that, honestly, I appreciate. It is always fun to see a hero’s dark side and realize that just because someone is shown to be the good guy, that doesn’t make them a good person. There are layers and less so layers like an onion, but more layers like a multi-layered Rubix cube in that there are multiple configurations to the person depending on the time, place, and audience.

On The Fence

Ending Things With Charles Quickly Falling Off

Nearly all productions find it necessary to lower the status of their villain rather than focus on raising their hero or making it so the hero is always on par with the villain; they just need the right timing. In my mind, with Charles nearly getting caught by Bianca, his face seen by multiple people, and now him being strung up in a barn, this is the beginning of the end of seeing Charles as this iconic assassin and the beginning of him being just another notch on Bianca’s resume.
