Quick Recap

With seemingly nothing better to do, AJ goes through every text she has gotten from Ruby about exes and compiles a board of all 20+ people Ruby has had sex with, minus Zack, since AJ doesn’t know about that yet. It’s a lot compared to AJ’s four, two from long-term relationships.

All the people Ruby slept with

But unfortunately, while names are on the board, many questions are left to ask. One of the big ones is, will the two women Ruby slept with be affected? Also, what determines the length between people dying? Another monkey wrench you can throw in there is, will that person only die if they haven’t bettered their life since the break-up?

As Ruby and AJ contemplate this, she continues to help Isaac plan his parents’ anniversary, which includes giving him snow globes she originally thought were a human head. Long story short, she thought she had a stalker murdering her exes – it was a whole thing that included her going to the police and the cop dancing around wanting to call her crazy.

Getting back to Isaac, for a moment, Ruby thought he might be crazy because he has blood stains on his carpet. He claims they are from squirrels since Merci likes to keep the windows open, but Ruby is suspicious. Mind you, this comes after the two bond over musicals, and Ruby opens up about her parents, from her mom being dead to her dad abandoning her.

In the end, though, Isaac likely isn’t a stalker. The only thing we know for sure is that male exes are dying in order of when Ruby slept with them, and someone snatches up Ruby at the end of the episode.

Review

Trajectory (75/100): Plateau

For every plus, it feels like a slew of minuses regarding “Laid.” While there is this sense, despite this being a comedy with a strange situation attached, AJ and Ruby do talk like real people at times; then comes that question of why Ruby slept with Zack lingering in the back. Then add on rushing through more exes who leave no real impression and are just, except one, a sea of people saying something negative about Ruby; what is there to praise?

Isaac (Tommy Martinez)

I mean, a part of me wants to highlight Isaac and Ruby’s conversation about musicals that got her to open up about her parents, but like all good things, it gets tarnished. She thinks he is a psycho, a stalker, and since the show doesn’t follow logic, the seed is planted.

Now, I will admit that it does present the idea Ruby leans towards self-sabotage in relationships by thinking or assuming the worst with people. But even with a touching conversation an episode, it is hard to know how seriously we should take our own theories.

Highlights

  • The sense these are real people due to their non-Peacock (and parent company) movie and show references.

Low Points

  • Dreading when AJ finds out Ruby and Zack slept together

On The Fence

  • Still rushing through people and having it where the most notable thing they say is how terrible Ruby was as a partner
  • Isaac and Ruby’s chemistry and conversation
