Headhunted to Another World: Season 1 Episode 4 – Recap and Review | Can Uchimura Fix The Strife Between Demons And Demi-Humans In One Episode?

Recap

With the Demon Lord wanting to address the friction between demons and demi-humans, he tasks Uchimura by fixing the one thing demi-humans don’t have: magic. That is seen as the great equalizer, and with Sylphid, Uchimura is expected to fix this.

The problem is that Sylphid is nowhere to be found, and Belinda doesn’t appear to want to help. But, what Belinda likely never thought about was Uchimura doing his research and figuring out that no one named Belinda exists within the official organization chart. So, with that, and the Demon Lord providing a hint, Uchimura realizes Belinda is Sylphid!

She doesn’t argue against this, but she does make it clear she hates additional work beyond the research she is focusing on. When it comes to what the Demon Lord wants, making demi-humans on the level of demons is not impossible but expensive. Never mind; as Ululu said, skill has to be taught, but the quality of magic stones required would bankrupt the kingdom.

So, with that in mind, Uchimura asks if, instead of all-powerful stones capable of multiple spells, if specialized stones capable of only one could be made – and overnight, they are. Now, testing them is a bit dangerous since they are used against Footprint Birds, which look like demented Chocobos. But, while the new items, named Rosemarin, work, they have limited usage.

Thinking smartly, though, while the items clearly can’t be used for combat, they do emit a noise that seemingly fends off beasts. So, alongside Sylphid, while the problem assigned isn’t solved, Uchimura and Sylphid solve another problem, which is part of why food is in short supply. This led to Uchimura gaining praise from the Demon Lord and Sylphid and cluing in Ulmandra to what they were doing since she was immensely jealous.

Review

Trajectory (81/100): Plateau

This episode introduced some interesting questions as things played out. For one, is the Demon Lord a demon, considering how covered up he is compared to his peers? Also, do elves get counted as demons or demi-humans? It’s little things that, if they are followed up on, like the strife between demons and demi-humans, can make for interesting long-tail storylines.

Focusing on what happened vs. what could, however, I must admit I’m a little confused by how Sylphid acted. In a past episode, it seemed like they were still against Uchimura, and with the push that he has the potential to create more work for everyone, as he ups the Demon Lord’s standards, you’d think she’d especially hate him. Yet, that ends up not being the case.

Thankfully, she doesn’t appear to fall for him as Ulmandra did, and they just went into her part of the organization, doing research and development. But, on the topic of Ulmandra, I need them to take it down several notches. Her girly side is cute, but the obsession is starting to become a lot and it seems between her minion Limim and Ulula, there may not be enough people to get her to see Uchimura may not see her romantically, despite past acts of kindness.

That aside, even if Uchimura will have the long-term challenge of bringing demi-humans and demons together, at the very least Sylphid, similar to Uchimura, got a chance to prove why they were an elite general, and we got to see a softer side to them. It almost makes me wonder why Ulmandra’s backstory, or even Gnome’s, hasn’t popped up yet? But, there is still a lot of time for that.
