Quick Recap

In our world, Dennosuke Uchimura was a salaryman used, abused, and often transferred, yet he achieved remarkable results wherever he went but never benefitted from his accomplishments. He accepted this life and seemingly was more about getting things done than complaining, despite the repeated slights that led to him watching his peers rise as his career remained stagnant.

Enter a sudden interdimensional transfer as Uchimura finds himself in front of otherworldly beings and the Demon Lord, who sees him as a potential Elite General within his army. As you can imagine, the other three, who have strength and powers, are perplexed by a human being invited, especially one who presents himself as nothing special. However, after making a deal with the minotaurs to join the Demon Lord’s army, all of them, but especially Ulmandra, are left in shock but forced to accept the Demon Lord didn’t have a lapse in judgment but rather foresight.

New Character Descriptions

Uchimura

Dennosuke Uchimura (Yuki Ono)

Uchimura is a wildly underappreciated salaryman who has long produced results for his unnamed employer. Yet, the only thanks he ever got was more work that seemed meant to force him to quit. But, with each success, he only finds himself transferred while someone else enjoys the fruits of his labor until the Demon Lord makes it clear that he doesn’t have to live that way.

The Demon Lord

The Demon Lord currently commands a medium-sized country with the desire to expand through war or alliances with others. While he has three well-geared generals for war, he needs someone like Uchimura to forge alliances and peace.

Ulmandra

Ulmandra (Yoshimi Ohara)

Ulmandra, the Inferno Assailant, is one of the four Elite Generals in the Demon Lord’s army and the first to speak out against Uchimura. However, after seeing him being able to negotiate with a Minotaur, which she failed to do, she comes to admire his soft power, even if physical power still holds higher value to her.

Review

Trajectory (83/100): Plateau

While there is a comedic element to “Headhunter To Another World,” the shift Uchimura is experiencing regarding dealing with humans to now demons, demi-humans, and likely other creatures is most notable and interesting. From the Demon Lord valuing him more than any boss previously, him being able to negotiate with a minotaur of all entities, to having a level of autonomy he isn’t used to, this sets up a massive amount of potential storylines.

Add in the establishment that each demon or demi-human not only has a culture but there is friction within the Demon Lord’s army – this means various things for Uchimura to get into and also the one big thing we didn’t see the entire episode: Him dealing with other humans.

After all, who has ever heard of a show with a Demon Lord and there not be human heroes seeking to end their reign and destroy their army? But, there might also be the need to question if Uchimura left anyone behind as well? He has pictures of people on his phone, but were they friends, family, or just co-workers living their best life while he was working his away?

From what it seems, “Headhunter To Another World” has a lot going for it, and while there will be some comical hijinks, it seems there will be a balance to show the work that it actually takes to run an army and win a long-term war.
