Recap
This content contains pertinent spoilers.
Can We Talk? – Javier, Elena, Isla, Ruby
With Ruby happy with Isla and revealing she felt bad about her joy, hence the hesitation in talking to Elena about it, Elena not only reassures her but feels the need to make peace with Javier. However, Javier wants to maintain his negative feelings regarding Elena rather than deal with them, so he outright tells her that he isn’t ready for the conversation she wants.
Speaking of conversations, Ruby tries to have a conversation with Isla to define what they are, but it seems she doesn’t want to define their relationship. And the more Ruby talks about Isla, the more Elena finds herself questioning something, especially as Ruby mentions hearing a song stuck in her head.
The Doctor Who Wanted to Be A Princess – Gwen, Lance
This week’s guests, Gwen and Lance, enter a fantasy world. Gwen because she wants to be a princess, and relinquish control over her life, specifically the need to make decisions. Lance, a comic book artist, wanted to be a real hero. Neither gets their perfect fantasy as Gwen becomes a medieval princess rather than a Meghan Markle kind of princess, and Lance ends up rescued by Gwen. Thus, he doesn’t get to become the hero he wanted to be – though he does save Gwen in a few scenarios.
However, in the end, they find strength, inspiration, and each other.
You Are Just Like Your Uncle – Isla, Elena, Ruby
You and I both know that the Island is magical, but it has long been assumed the magic was limited to executing people’s fantasies. That isn’t true. After being speculated for a long time, it is confirmed that Isla is a mermaid, potentially a siren and that she has been seducing Ruby for quite some time. Elena doesn’t like this and forces Isla away, and with doing so, Isla reminds her not only that the Island needs her kind but also that Elena is acting like her uncle.
Naturally, Elena sees this as a compliment, but whether or not acting like her uncle will continue to benefit what Elena tries to do with each guest is hard to say. Especially if the magic she takes advantage of requires participation from the mermaids, who are protected by the Island’s boundaries.
Things To Note
Question(s) Left Unanswered
- Why is there beef between the host and the mermaids?

- Are there other kinds of creatures in the jungles, waters, and shadows on the Island?
What Could Happen Next
- Ruby learning what Isla is
- Hopefully more Segundo. He has been really AWOL this season

Answers Regarding Who, Or What Isla Is
It has been teased for a long time that something was different about Isla. She would appear as she wanted, could only be seen by who she wanted, and gave off the impression she was part of some prolonged fantasy for Ruby. But, now it is clear she is a mermaid, one with the capabilities of a siren, and on top of that, there is a prolonged beef between her kind and Elena’s family.
This leads to a litany of questions, some of which are above, and with us still waiting for answers regarding Elena’s cousin, it could be interesting to see if part of the cold war between Elena’s family and the mermaids deals with what happened to previous hosts, or those who attempted to be one.
Javier Against A Quick Resolution
Javier being in his feelings may seem petty, maybe even childish, but let’s not discount it has likely been a long time since he has been in love, and Elena basically flipped a switch on him. She was confessing things so they could be long-term, invited his daughter to stay, gave her a job, and seemed like she was really putting in an effort, but then flipped the script on him abruptly, and even pulled the boss card on him, Ruby, and potentially others.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine anyone wanting to quickly forgive someone just because they got scared or struggle with a relationship getting too serious and needing an out. This isn’t to discount that Elena, unlike Javier, doesn’t have the ability to leave the island, so, as shown, things can get immensely awkward, but she knew what she was getting into. As did Javier, but Elena, being a supervisor with some form of higher purpose, has to take far more accountability than Javier.
