Bad Monkey: Season 1 Episode 2 – Review/ Recap (Written)
Yancy gets a sliver of good news, as more and more he finds himself pulled into Nick’s case to see how he was likely killed.
Storyline Recap
She Did What? – Yancy, Caitlin, Rosa, Eve, Christopher, Sonny, Ro
Yancy, or Andrew, finds himself trying to stay on Sonny’s good side since he is now reinstated but is not yet a detective. Instead, he is a food inspector and one without a car. However, with Ro helpful but not invested in the murder, Yancy meets Caitlin alone and eventually breaks into Eve’s house looking for clues. Rosa joins him because Yancy is getting her interested, but Yancy is very back and forth about all of this.
One minute, he is all in; the next, he wants not to cause waves. His curiosity seemingly leads to trouble, but with Rosa seduced into investigating as well, he has a co-sign, someone validating his madness, and there comes a point where she can’t help herself. Granted, with her not dating and trying to fill her time beyond smoking, what else does she have to do?
But, while Rosa is single, Eve is not, and it seems Christopher might be her latest sugar daddy, but his love and money have limits. So Caitlin trying to slow down, or screw up, a multi-million dollar payday will not stand. Hence, Eve decides they need to speak face to face, and even if she has to break her off something, it is better than losing all of the money.
She Did What? Part 2 – Johanna, Bonnie, Yancy
Bonnie has always been a bit weird, but Yancy didn’t know how or why. Well, by meeting Johanna Russell of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, we learn why Bonnie is so weird and is worried about Cliff going to trial and shaking the skeletons in her closet. Bonnie, real name Plover, or Clover, assaulted, in an intimate way, one of her students when she was an English teacher. It isn’t clear how old the kid was, but Johanna does make clear Bonnie has been on the run for nine years.
Meanwhile, In The Islands – Egg, Charles, Neville, Eve, Christopher, Dragon Queen
Neville finds his home destroyed, the Dragon Queen pushing that he should have paid more if he wanted quicker results, and then there is Egg. Egg is Christopher’s enforcer, if not a man-servant considering how Eve treats him, and he harasses Neville, Neville’s friend Charles, when he loses his bar, and it all becomes so much to the point Neville decides to go to Miami to see his sister, for what else is he going to do?
Daddy’s Favorite – Samara, Neville
Samara and Neville will speak to one another, but they aren’t on the best of terms. You can blame their dad for that since Neville was an undisputed favorite. But Samara will let Neville stay in her house, around her son, and even work for her while she gets his part of the money from the sale, and he plots his next move. Which seemingly is on course for his story to finally combine or collide with Yancy.

Highlights
What Yancy Brings to The Show
The driving force of this show is Yancy’s investigation and how gray some people are. Ro comes off somewhere between worthy of suspicion or maybe just being a person who doesn’t see the point of doing the most since he isn’t getting paid on that level. Eve, yeah, comes off like maybe she was part of her husband’s murder, but what if she got lucky and Nick upset the wrong people and she just so happen to benefit?
There is just enough gray with anyone you can name, even the Bonnie situation, to keep you engaged, happy you have an Apple TV+ subscription, and wanting the next episode.
On The Fence
Sadly, All The Characters From Andres
At this point, Neville and everyone associated with him might be a low point. What is the hook? It’s not tapping into the culture he is part of, the work that the Dragon Queen does, or even how developers aren’t just causing gentrification in the inner city but destroying homes in the Caribbean as well. Now, with Neville and Yancy at the same place at the same time, here is hoping they don’t just cross paths and then end up back on separate journeys. Truly, Neville’s storyline is something that feels like it should have been cut, but maybe wasn’t because the potential of backlash.
