Overview/ Review (with Spoilers)

There is a potential love triangle coming soon and it is between two girls for Yuu. One we already know, Fuuka, but the other is Koyuki. Leaving us with two girls who seem like the perfect match for Yuu’s heart.

Topic 1: It Was All a Misunderstanding (Fuuka, Yuu, and Makoto)

With Yuu catching Fuuka crying and her seemingly trying to get close to Makoto, who seems quite popular with girls, Yuu completely disregards what happens in the last episode. He thinks Makoto is the one she really likes but, thing is, Makoto is gay.

Commentary

The idea that Yuu was simply a second choice and Makoto was Fuuka’s first was an intriguing concept when first introduced. If only because, I can’t, offhand, think of a anime which had such a sad plot. So, of course, while I adore Yuu, and he seems so sweet, I was for him being used so Fuuka could get from him what Makoto wouldn’t commit to.

Alas, Makoto is simply gay. Which, makes Yuu seem slightly uncomfortable. At least when Makoto gets too close to him. Making me wonder are they going to flirt with the idea of Makoto maybe liking Yuu or is this simply some low-key homophobia in the form of fearing he may come onto him? Either way, I must admit this Makoto being gay thing, while perfectly fine, I feel like there isn’t anything interesting that will be done with that tidbit.

Topic 2: Sweet Childhood Memories (Koyuki & Yuu)

Yuu was the one who supporting Koyuki’s singing and they even gave each other nicknames after a band they both liked. So, after trading DMs, Koyuki asks to see her childhood friend at her concert. He says he has plans but, low and behold, those plans, with Fuuka, are to see said concert. Thus revealing Koyuki’s music is based primarily off her memories of hanging out with Yuu as a kid and thinking her feelings were unrequited.

Commentary

I have mixed feelings when it comes to Koyuki. While she is an idol, which I think is the appropriate term, her life is presented as being far too much about Yuu. With that, she seems like your usual anime love interest. Yet, I would be lying to you if I didn’t find her freaking out over Yuu being nice to her kind of cute. However, after a certain point, I just found myself rolling my eyes for you can tell this show is gearing up for a #TeamFuuka vs. #TeamKoyuki. Which, with how forced Koyuki’s side of things is, I’m so for continuing this Fuuka story. Especially since it seems like what would have happened if Koyuki didn’t move.

Topic 3: So Begins A Love Triangle and Impending Drama (Koyuki, Yuu, and Fuuka)

With Yuu and Koyuki now having phone conversations, him coming to her concert and those old feelings coming back full force, it seems she may try to get what once was inconceivable. Issue is, what Yuu did for Koyuki he is now doing for Fuuka. As Makoto put it, she was like a bird in a cage though perhaps more so like a bird who knew how to fly just not sure where to go. Track and field came easy but didn’t make her heart sing. So, after the concert, when Koyuki hears her sing and praises her, she decides maybe that’s what she should do. She even starts a club, coercing Yuu and Makoto to join, which will officially make them a band.

Commentary

Picking up from the commentary on topic 2, I wonder how Koyuki is going to take Yuu being in a band? They dreamed about becoming like their idols in the Hedgehogs, so imagine if they do it separately and not together. Will Koyuki get jealous, heartbroken, will this show make it where something dramatic happens over it maybe being confirmed her unrequited love is just that? What about Fuuka? Is this show going to make it where she flips out on Yuu for not mentioning her favorite singer is his childhood friend? Much less, with Makoto making it seem Fuuka is more sensitive than she appears, how may she act when she sees Yuu and Koyuki get along?

No matter how you look at it, there is going to be some emotional episodes ahead of which Yuu is going to be in the center of the drama. Question is, how will he react to these girls who either flat out like him or are growing to?
