Overview
The majority of the episode is focused on explaining what “The Numbers” are, as well as us getting to know the capabilities of Mira, and the sacrifices she is willing to make to become accepted.
Characters & Story (with Commentary)
Topic 1: A (Semi) Normal Girl (Mira & Kyoma)
With Mira’s bird discovery leading to millions of yen, she figures she should give some of it over to Kyoma, since he is her caretaker, and also because she wants some form of normalcy. Not in the sense of him taking her places, or being more friendly, but she just wants her own space, her own bed, and privacy as she uses the bathroom. Most of which is granted, within reason.
Though what will eventually make things complicated is that it seems Mira’s system, while self-repairing, may not last forever. Leading to the question of how long may she have, and whether Kyoma can do anything to keep her functioning?
Topic 2: The Numbers (Kyoma)
With Loser revealing not only that Kyoma’s past isn’t as secret as he thinks, and the Number coils, it brings him the need to start an investigation. Not into Loser’s past, or have him investigate Loser’s past failed heist, but more so what in the world are “The Numbers?” Well, the answer is “beta coils.” As in coils during the early days of the technology which aren’t for consumers, but more so would be for government use. Not to say that is what they were made for, but considering the capacity of them drawing energy from the deep reaches of Dimension W, in comparison to the consumer version just barely scrapping the surface, they seem ready made for space exploration or plain old destruction.
Topic 3: COO of New Tesla Central 47 (Kyoma & Mira)
While you would think Kyoma’s investigation would be the thing to get him in trouble, it ends up being those pesky kids who have a grand interest in his property and car. But their interest especially become piqued as Mira walks around and Shiora, the only named child thus far, decides to talk to Mira. Which Mira enjoys, for she wants to be accepted socially, but unfortunately the boys of the group are playing in one of Kyoma’s junk cars and with a tube snapping, so comes the cars tumbling down. However, no one ends up hurt all thanks to Mira diving in and just losing her head.
Unfortunately for Kyoma, however, even with him not being around at the time of the cars collapsing, when the police show up he is brought in for child endangerment. Thankfully though, within hours, he is released. Why? Well, little Shiora’s grandmother is one of the COOs of New Tesla. Said lady is named Claire Skyheart and while she is friendly to Kyoma as he questions why she helped him, it seems she likely was involved with Mira’s maker’s death, and perhaps someone who had a hand in the murder which ends the episode.
On The Fence
Outside of the information about what The Numbers are, this was a rather forgettable episode. For even with us understanding how Mira works more, and meeting a possible villain of New Tesla, you aren’t left with much. But, based off that murder which ended the episode, I don’t think we should consider the season, or series, going downhill or at a plateau.
