Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen)

Character Introduction

First Noted In: Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot” [Series Premiere]

A renowned cardiothoracic surgeon at one time, Martin, seemingly just because he could, killed over 23 people. His method was tea laced with Ketamine, and then taking it from there – all under his family’s nose. But, thanks to Malcolm in 1998 rescuing Gil from the fate of many others, he was arrested and put in a psychiatric prison where he remains today. In fact, despite being in prison, it seems he still is a consultant for many, even foreign dignitaries.

Additional Information About Martin

Jessica (Bellamy Young)

Martin’s wife, who is trying to save the family name after what he did. Also, she is very much on Malcolm’s case to pursue a normal life far away from the scandal that tarnished their family’s legacy.

Ainsley (Halston Sage)

Martin’s daughter, who barely remembers him since he was arrested when she was 5. But, pressing forward, in modern times she is a reporter on TV and seems far more well adjusted than her mother Jessica or brother Malcolm.

Character Introduction

First Noted In: Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot” [Series Premiere]

Former special agent Martin Whitly, aka Martin Bright, appears to have intimate knowledge of some of his father’s kills and with their relationship being close, until he applied to Quantico in 2009, he has been his base for profiling serial killers. Which, in 2019, is his job for the NYPD.

Other known facts about Malcolm is that he is a narcissist, with PTSD, and some would say psychotic inclinations. Also, he suffers from tremors, takes at least 4 different medications, requires being strapped in when sleeping, or else he’ll sleepwalk, and that he is the one who ended his father’s murdering spree. Which, based off what we currently know, isn’t something Martin is aware of.

An NYPD cop who, in 1998, nearly ended up one of “The Surgeon’s” victims until the son of the surgeon warned him and saved his life. 20+ years later the two still maintain contact, and when Malcolm returns to New York, after being fired by the FBI, Gil recruits Malcolm to help with a copycat killer mimicking his father’s crimes.
