Summary

From the trailer you would believe this is simply another film about a psychopath. One who likely creates beautiful pieces on people and then hunts them down for his art is actually branding. However, going by the longline, you get an almost SaW type of story. One in which these people are tattooed, drugged, imprisoned, and then are racing against the clock to escape by possibly doing a series of test.

Commentary

The best kind of horror coerces you to question your safety in your everyday life. Think about how truly vulnerable you are no matter how much you work out, how nice you are, or even being a law-abiding citizen. In the case of The Tattooist, I want you to imagine getting a tattoo, taking on a permanent art piece, and being drugged. Granted, the piece is beautiful, but now you find yourself in a basement of some kind with you having to deal with this deranged man.

First Impression

As a 1 minute and 19-second trailer, The Tattooist hones directly in on those who enjoy and appreciate a gorey horror. Leading you to wonder, like The Story of 90 Coins, what Wong’s vision would be like if he produced a feature-length film? From what it appears, flinching and twisting your face because of the visuals is very likely. Also, taking note of his previous work, it pushes the idea that while the hook may be the sights, with each prisoner being tested, perhaps their individual stories will be equally as compelling.

But, with this being so short, I can’t really give it a rating but with the tease below, let me know what you think.
