Recap
This Love Is Taking Its Toll On Me: Gaitok, Mook, Chelsea, Rick, Sritala, Fabian, Dr. Amrita
To Gaitok’s dismay, despite the kindness he receives from Sritala, it seems Fabian, her right hand, was going to fire him over the security breach. This makes him talking about being one of Sritala’s bodyguards, even telling Mook about it, embarrassing. But what makes things worse is, while Sritala may have saved his job, this doesn’t mean Fabian thinks he is deserving to be in the clear just yet.
But, in Gaitok’s defense, Fabian is in a mood. He mispronounced Sritala’s name to her face while asking if he could perform some music he has written, and he was interrupted by Rick, who is trying to make a way to see Sritala’s husband. Seemingly, when he casts his net, he catches her, and the more we see Rick have therapy with Dr. Amrita, the more it seems Sritala’s husband had to be involved with the death of his father.
Which, of course, he doesn’t talk to Chelsea about. She may see herself as his soul mater, but it seems, whenever she is inconvenient, he would rather treat her like an annoying step sister. The kind where, if turned on, he may have fun with, but otherwise treats like a burden imposed on him by a parent.
What’s A Lie That Keeps The Peace?: Timothy, Victoria, Belinda, Greg, Chloe, Pornchai, Saxon
While Belinda is starting to think her mentor Pornchai may have a crush on her, she also finds herself taking note of Greg or Gary, depending on who you are talking to. She even decides to ask if she knows him, which he denies, and his girlfriend Chloe takes note of. But, whether she decides to disturb his peace is hard to guess (previews say she will).
But, while Greg is trying to keep his past hidden, or use the fact he is alive to control the story, Timothy is struggling to keep what’s happening outside the resort from coming down on him. Saxon is starting to get calls, and you know the blabber mouth he is, so Timothy decides to have all electronics put away, as their attendant originally recommended, in hopes of keeping things quiet.
Not satisfied with that, he gives in and starts taking the pills Victoria has offered, and with the way he is popping them, he may end up being the dead body found in the first episode – from a overdose.
Who Needs Enemies With People Like This Around You?: Laurie, Kate, Jaclyn
The beef between Laurie, Kate, and Jaclyn continues with Kate in the crosshairs as she reveals she is a independent, her husband a Republican, and it isn’t clear whether or not she voted for Trump. With that in mind, Jaclyn picks with her, seemingly in a way she doesn’t pick up on, and Laurie is just stunned that Kate isn’t a Democrat.
But, what seemed like a conversation of just questions becomes Jaclyn and Laurie sounding like they think Kate can’t think for herself, she just follows her husband, and has allowed herself to be absorbed into his world. Which, of course, she overhears, but like past conversations when one person wasn’t in the room, likely confrontation won’t happen till someone hits a boiling point.

Predictions

Review
Trajectory (75/100): Decline
Highlights
Jaclyn’s Friend Group [84/100]
Jaclyn’s friend group, at this point, is the saving grace of season 3. Yes, the comments are catty, shady, and lead you to wonder why this group would ever travel halfway across the world with each other, but the drama is undeniably entertaining. On top of that, because they are frenemies of one another, it is perhaps one of the few storylines where you like the ebb and flow of their journey and can get invested in the potential of one of them dying.
Low Points
The Fall of Timothy – If Not His Family In General [67/100]
Saxon, Victoria, Timothy, Lochlan and Piper do very little for me. The problem I believe is they all represent a specific type of person rather than seem like individual and unique people. So in terms of getting a reaction, they all fall flat. Be it Saxon being the bro type, who likely got an assault charge paid away from college, Piper as the black sheep, or Lochlan who is quiet and innocent until he does something which brings him closer to the dark side.
Then, with their parents, Victoria just feels bland and as much as I get Timothy is supposed to be seen as someone getting their just desserts, because he isn’t built up to be a villain or someone you love to hate, he is just a rich man who screwed up to me. Add in he doesn’t have layers to him like a Lannister in “Game of Thrones” and not being invested in Piper or Lochlan enough to worry about fallout and it just makes this storyline feel like it doesn’t matter and is just part of the formula.
On The Fence
Belinda’s Pending Investigation [77/100]
I feel like Belinda has either been underused or treated as unnecessary thus far. Her cross-training has not been worth taking note of and while this Greg/Gary investigation does give her something to do, maybe can get justice for Tanya in some way, honestly, I’d rather have Tanya than either of these two. Greg/Gary has always been a bit boring and two-dimensional and while I love seeing a Black actor in a show like this, I honestly find myself less and less caring about Belinda and whether or not she ends up living, dying, or having her dreams come true.
She just feels like another part of the formula of showing all seasons are in a connected universe.
Rick’s Revenge [78/100]
The issue for me when it comes to Rick is that, as much as they are painting this revenge as something potentially personal, I find it hard to get invested. The writing of this season, potentially in general, hasn’t done well in making characters feel worth taking note of – despite who is playing them. Which is strange to me but I’m starting to think when it comes to Mike White, maybe when he is writing women, especially those like Tanya, Kate, Laurie, and Jaclyn, that is where it is all paved roads and smooth sailing.
However, for all others, I’m starting to think that is where the challenge comes in. If it isn’t a middle-aged woman, maybe specifically middle-aged White women, I think White knows the characters have to exist, but isn’t sure how to make them interesting, with Rick being one of many examples.
The Storylines Of The Staff of The White Lotus [72/100]
When it comes to the staff, I’d submit the Thailand staff, likely since they are the least outlandish, have been a bit of a bore. But, I’d submit they haven’t played to their strengths either. Gaitok and Mook’s storyline, even if Gaitok’s feelings are unrequited, still has something to it. But, as for the rest of the staff? They seem just that – people to serve the guests with very little identity or life of their own.
I mean, yes, Fabian has a desire to perform and we learn a bit about Valentin, who takes care of Jaclyn’s group, but you don’t get those personalities and entities who demand attention and make you feel like this could be a major international jump off point for them. Mind you, in the first season, the locals were probably as notable, in a bad way, but with season 2 upping things, there was hope change was afoot. But, who knows, as said in the last topic, middle-aged White women are White’s favorite characters and maybe like Woody Allen, the farther away you are from looking like that, the bigger the struggle for him to invest and make your character matter? Especially if you can’t be used like Belinda was by Tanya.
“The White Lotus” Guide

The White Lotus: Season 3 Episode 2 – Recap/ Review
While new characters bring new life to a familiar formula, others push the idea that if there is a season 4, their group/characters wouldn’t be a loss if removed.

The White Lotus: Season 3 Episode 1 – Recap/ Review
While there is clearly a formula for how “The White Lotus” operates, that doesn’t mean it lacks notable excitement.

The White Lotus: Season 2 – Summary/ Review (with Spoilers)
“The White Lotus” tries to use the same formula from season 1, with all but two characters, Tanya and Greg, being new, and it leads to mixed results on occasion but still a relatively entertaining season.
