Willem and Chtholly in SukaSuka

SukaSuka (World’s End) is still trying to really convince you to invest in Willem and Chtholly’s relationship. But it remains rather unconvincing.

Like a Date?: Chtholly, Willem

As people, and fairies, wait on the surface to be rescued, Chtholly and Willem have a date. Well, not an official date, but it certainly looks like it. Their day contains shopping, eating, but gets kind of ruined by a few things. The first being that Willem is going to the surface, and choosing Nephren to go with him. The second being the reveal Chtholly isn’t a leprechaun anymore. Now, at first, neither of these things bother Chtholly. For one, who is Ren? Secondly, when there is a will there is a way and she finds a way to get onto Willem’s mission to the surface.

However, with Ren continuing to have what some may see as an inappropriate relationship with Willem, Chtholly gets jealous. This gets quickly dissipated though through him noting how they have a father and daughter relationship [note]Him and Rem[/note]. But what really drives it home that Chtholly has nothing to worry about is when he grabs her hand. Following that, when one of the tikes fall off the roof, and Chtholly saves them, his focus is on her. Despite the kid having a real possibility of dying, all his worries are aimed at Chtholly.

Someone he perhaps should worry about for that extra effort into saving that child has brought Elq back. In fact, now Chtholly’s hair is redder than ever. Making Willem’s quest for the Lapidemsibilus all the more important. If only because it would help her mental capacity.

Though I would be remiss to not mention that this surface landing likely will be near Willem’s hometown of Gomag city. Which surely we’ll visit soon.

Commentary

There may seem like a lot to unpack, but there really isn’t. For this show basically has come to the point where it is all about Chtholly and Willem’s eventual romance. Any threat against either of their lives is just going to be made to try to push them closer together. Said thing has been clear for a while, but here is hoping future complications make this show interesting.

No, not the battles, since I know those won’t become consistent but rare moments to enjoy. What I’m talking about is the fact Chtholly may turn into that redhead we saw Willem with before. On top of that, with Rhan having blue hair like Chtholly, I imagine some juvenile jealousy over her. Especially with her interest in humanity. For, I can tell you right now, she is going to latch onto Willem because he is able to translate all the text she has been trying to decipher. Thus leading to a bigger harem but that is basically what this show is now.

Nygglatho in SukaSuka

I mean, can you argue against that? At this point, with Nygglatho saying she likes Willem, Chtholly liking him, and Willem trying to play it off, isn’t this just a harem? I mean, even with this Ren thing, I feel like he is trying to pretend she is like a daughter to him just to calm Chtholly down. However, considering Rem is probably around the age of Chtholly, what makes her so different?

Rem, Willem, and Ithea in SukaSuka

Granted, she doesn’t talk like she has a crush on Willem, but she is very forward. For between sitting on his lap to them sleeping together, albeit after studying the Lapidemsibilus, I honestly believe he is trying to convince himself they are platonic [note]I should add, it seems Willem doesn’t necessarily want things to go further with Chtholly. However, her being cute and consistent is what is getting to him. So who is to say if any of these girls, or women, really put an effort, they couldn’t charm him into making a move too?[/note]. The reality is though, like Nygglatho, I think these girls are only not going further because they want to see Chtholly happy.

Elq's influence on Chtholly showing in SukaSuka

Harem aspects aside, I truly, honestly wish this Elq thing was played up better. This spirit is torturing her mind to the point of her hair turning red. Elq is supposed to be the catalyst of Chtholly going insane but, like romance on this show, it never goes to the point it needs to. As in, to the point you feel forced to take note of what is happening. As if, to turn away, to miss one subtitle, you may miss something important. For, let me tell you, if I could speak Japanese, I would probably multi-task while watching this. Since, at this point, there is little to no reason to be glued to the screen anymore.
