Grogu Proves his Worth β Mando, Grogu, Bo-Katan
This recap/review will be relatively short as this episode is by far the shortest, with a run time of 30 minutes and 39 seconds, as opposed to the previous week’s almost double run time of 56 minutes and 11 seconds. This, for all intents and purposes, is a filler episode. It stands alone and has its delights, but it does not provide much in the progression of the story.
The avid fans of Grogu (affectionately called Baby Yoda) will find a treat in the many cute and adorable screen moments with the accompanying cooing baby gurgles. Mando, Grogu, and Bo Katan are still visiting the secret Mandalorian covert and are quite chummy. Mando takes advantage of their time there by having Grogu engage in fight training to acclimate and ingratiate him with other Mandalorians. Grogu presents as seemingly vulnerable due to his diminutive size, but with a little prodding from beamingly proud Mando, his adopted son shows his formidable skill and confidently displays his prowess in an easy win.
Monstrous Pterodactyl Bird/Dragon Attack and Abduction! – Mando and Bo-Katan
The young Mandalorian initiate defeated in the brief win by Grogu is, within minutes following the duel, abducted and carried away by a giant Pterodactyl bird/dragon, which is hideously awesome. Bo-Katan, in normal, heroic fashion, quickly springs into action, following the winged monster to its nest and returns to lead a rescue team.
Memories – Grogu, The Armorer, Kelleran Beq
While Mando, Bo-Katan, and the rescue party are otherwise engaged, The Armorer, followed by the irrepressible Grogu, retreat to the forge where The Armorer prepares Grogu’s first earned armor. As he contemplatively looks over her skilled preparation, past memories float into view of the fulfillment of Order 66, AKA when Palpatine called for the execution of the Jedis. One surviving Jedi, Kelleran Beq – a Jedi Alum, is left to fend off the attackers narrowly and breathtakingly escaping with Grogu by jettisoning into hyper speed.
Three New Foundlings! Mando, Bo-Katan, Grogu, The Armorer
Mando, Bo-Katan, and the rescue team, which includes the father reunited with his abducted son, victoriously return surprisingly with the three now orphaned ginormous baby birds in tow as new foundlings. The episode triumphantly culminates with Bo-Katan receiving the highest award from The Armorer for rescuing a foundling. She asks for the Mythosaur crest as an addition to her armor and reveals to the disbelief of The Armorer that she has seen the mythical creature in the living waters of Mandalore. We have been waiting for this reveal, but The Armorer somewhat deceptively waves off the validity to a mere daydream without expressing curiosity or pursuing additional probing.
