It’s Not All On Issa: Lawrence, Derek
With Lawrence learning Issa and Daniel are seeing each other again, so begins a bit of jealousy. Maybe even thinking it wasn’t a one-time thing but Issa was unfaithful throughout the relationship. Leading to Lawrence trying to play the victim of the situation. Showing nothing of what Tasha said clicked with him at all. But, hopefully, Derek, Tiffany’s husband, [note] Because I know I can’t be the only one who forgot who this dude was [/note] mansplaining that Lawrence was unemployed for two years, by his own decision, may make things click.
Well, eventually. For it seems Lawrence doesn’t take criticism at all. He just continues to cyber stalk Issa and now focuses on Daniel as well.
Commentary
I know the term “The Sunken Place” is usually used for when someone is blind to injustice, oppression, and things of that nature. However, can we add that being in the sunken place is when you aren’t even drowning in your own BS, but have adapted to breathe despite it? Because I truly think that is where Lawrence is at this point.
He is in a place where I can’t even look at him and think, “Aw, he is heartbroken.” Nah, he is taking those unfortunate steps toward being creepy. To the point, I wouldn’t be surprised if he just so happened to run into Issa, confront Daniel, or do something else completely unnecessary. Which hopefully would lead to a smack or him getting knocked out. Since apparently, like a bad little disobedient child, he needs to be popped to learn anything.
Do We Need To DTR?/ Do We Got A Problem?: Issa, Daniel, Frieda
Do We Got A Problem?
Frieda is still perturbed, and a little bit disappointed, with how Issa is handling this VP Gaines situation. Especially since Frieda is pushing the idea of the situation being racist and just really getting on Issa’s last good nerve. Yet, out of everyone at We Got Ya’ll, sadly Frieda is the only one Issa can stand. However, at their Saturday company training/retreat, Frieda decides to work with someone else on an assignment. Leaving Issa stuck with Sarah who seems in no way happy to be stuck with her.
Do We Need To DTR?
But, while work isn’t going swimmingly, Issa’s ho-tation seems to be going well. She has neighbor bae, Daniel, and is adding a Latin man named Nico (Diego Serrano) to the mix. Making it really seem Issa is living her best life. However, after getting into a car accident, thanks to an unsolicited dick pick which takes Issa by surprise, she calls Daniel for help. Leading to her taking note of his worry and how he consoles her. Leading you to wonder if she, like Lawrence, may not be able to keep up this ho life forever. Though with Daniel saying he is seeing other people too, who knows who may become Issa’s permanent bae.
Commentary
I can fully imagine Issa and Daniel getting together and the new problem being, going from a boyfriend who has way too much time for her to having someone who, because he has a job, barely has enough. Leading to new problems for Issa. Yet, problems I’m sure her audience can relate to. That is, having a bae who you are proud of, ticks off a lot of boxes on your checklist, but can’t fit quality time in which works with your schedule. Making it where you got to take the moments when you can get them.
As for Issa’s work-life? I’m prepping for Frieda to snitch or pop off on VP Gaines. I don’t think Issa will screw up a very good look for her over Frieda pouting and feeling a certain kind of way. She can and may, but considering how long she was not making the numbers asked of her and how her boss was questioning her commitment, I can’t foresee her shooting herself in the foot for Frieda. Especially considering all I noted in episode 2.
Behind the Façade/ Nothing Will Ever Be Perfect: Molly, Dro
Molly’s parents have been the standard for what she has looked for in relationships. So with her learning their 35-year relationship included an affair? It’s over. Despite her inviting Lionel and trying to obtain this perfect relationship façade, it’s clear to her now that it isn’t possible.
Which Dro, because Lionel I guess felt it was beyond his abilities, tries to console Molly on. However, being in the space she is, it leads her to say screw it and screw Dro.
Commentary
So who wants to start taking bets Candice either left Dro or they don’t have an open relationship? Anyone? For men on this show, thus far, haven’t been s*** so I don’t expect Dro to be telling the whole truth at all. As for how Molly will react? Well, I can only hope it will lead her into Lionel’s arms but I doubt it. Not just because Sterling K. Brown doesn’t seem like he’ll become a regular but because I really can’t imagine her or Issa having a functioning relationship anymore. It would make life too good and I’d fully expect them to ruin it because they’d find it boring.
