Everyone Wants To Be Closer To Yanagi – Yanagi, Sengoku, Remi, Hori, Miyamura

The gist of the episode is Yanagi is attractive to everyone, man or woman, and with some, like Miyamura being close enough to him to call him Akane, his first name, so comes a bit of jealousy. Thus leading to some, like Remi and Hori being playful and trying to get closer to him that way, or Sengoku, who gets so worried and caught up that he draws negative attention to himself.

Meanwhile, Yanagi, a bit oblivious to what everyone is doing and wants, is just trying to get to school on time since he isn’t a morning person.

Feeling Like They Should Have Made An OVA Instead Of A Season

Yanagi (Jun Fukuyama) waking up
“Yanagi (Jun Fukuyama) waking up,” Horimiya, “Yanagi-Kun,” directed by Kakushi Ifuku, 2023, (Crunchyroll)

“Horimiya” is increasingly showing us why this season’s subtitle is “The Missing Pieces,” for, more often than not, it can feel like what we’re getting is the stuff that belongs on the cutting room floor. It doesn’t add anything notable, really adds to the story of these characters, and often feels like filler.

Now, granted, sometimes the filler is comical, like whenever Sengoku is made into the butt of a joke because he is a bit of an odd young man. However, at this point, it seems you could skip episodes and not miss anything, this being one of them.

Summary

By the episode, the second season of “Horimiya” pushes the idea we’re experiencing a sophomore slump, and being eight episodes in, I can’t say there is much reason to get excited about the final 5.
