The 2nd Wave: Naofumi, Motoyasu, Myne, Raphtalia, Filo, Ren, Itsuki
As usual, rather than come together when a wave hits, the heroes are disjointed. Not just in terms of Naofumi vs. the rest, but even when it comes to Motoyasu, Ren, and Itsuki they are combative against each other. Thus making the whole process so much longer and when Naofumi calls them out, naturally Myne adds her two cents. However, with Naofumi figuring out how to trigger the soul eater, he gets no props. Heck, until Raphtalia guilts the others, they pretty much leave things to Filo, Naofumi, and Raphtalia for a bit. Especially as Naofumi summons the Rage Shield.
The Rage Shield: Naofumi, Raphtalia, Filo
While Ren is at level 65, so assumingly the others are as well, they aren’t able to make much of a dent against the Dimensional Soul Eater. This is a problem to Naofumi since his main goal isn’t the glory of defeating a wave but protecting villagers. It is kind of his unofficial thing at this point, being a man of the people. So, rather than have Raphtalia fighting to the point of exhaustion or Filo using up all her mana until she ends up vulnerable, he uses the rage shield.
Now, while a good idea, at first, unfortunately, it seems rather than feed on his hatred, it is feeding off the zombie dragon that Ren pseudo-killed. Thus creating a custom armor and attack, but leaving Naofumi incapable of controlling his powers like before. Which, of course, worries Raphtalia since she got injured when she tried to stop him before. Luckily though, since the shield wasn’t feeding off Naofumi’s hatred, he was able to combat it and use the shield to actually provide some offense. Leading to us seeing his Iron Maiden attack which kills the soul eater but leaves one remaining one left. Though, a new frenemy handles that.
Introducing – Glass: Glass, Naofumi
A frenemy whose name is Glass and apparently is disappointed in all the heroes but Naofumi. Not that she means to compliment him too much though. It’s just that she likes a challenge and it seems, despite being 15 or more levels than Naofumi, only he seems to take that world seriously and she admires that. Making it so their fight, perhaps to the death, or just for the sake of gloating, will be the true test of each individual hero and them as a group.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt the first wave was a bit lackluster. Maybe it is because Naofumi wasn’t at the heart of it, so we didn’t get to see the real damaging effects. However, between fighting with the other heroes and the being they took on, we continue to see an uptick in where this show is going.

With Glass so easily taking down a dimensional soul eater and presenting themselves as an enemy to the heroes, call me interested. After all, there hasn’t been a villain on this show beyond Myne, and she isn’t so much a formidable villain, even with her powers as a member of the royal family, but just an annoyance. So having someone charismatic and a physical threat should be interesting.
