Episode 23: Paradrop
It’s the beginning of the end for Zolzal as the SDF decide enough is enough and not only massacre his forces attacking the Jade Palace, but also release the political prisoners, with the exception of one. Someone who remains Zolzal’s trump card as his reign becomes more of an embarrassment than triumph.
Episode Summary (with Commentary)
Tyuule’s dreams of Zolzal’s end may come true. For as she gives him ill-advice on how to handle the SDF as they storm through the west gate to rescue their people, and even free political prisoners, he is at a lost. To the point where it is only a matter of time when her advice gets him killed. All the while, those former political prisoners find themselves with a new, slightly damaged, empire to rule with SDF influence.
Which, as of now, isn’t a problem for the SDF still has good relations with the aristocrats and the people. For as this blitz operation was going on, they escorted people away from the area and it seems no casualty wasn’t a soldier. But while the SDF made great and large gains, unfortunately Princess Pina remains in shackles. Giving Zolzal his last means to slow down the SDF unless they want their champion to be executed. Which, considering their brother is mounting his own army to overthrow Zolzal, would be one of the top 3 stupidest moves he can do.
Things To Note
Itami and his team are racing toward the capital and are more than likely the ones who will rescue Princess Pina in the next episode.

I really wish there was another season of GATE for the simple reason that I’d like them to actually bring the conflict to a conclusion. I know there are issues with the story, but I was enjoying it and it just kind of left me hanging and that kind of takes the rewatch fun out of it.
There needs to at least be a ova, if not a full movie. This was the first show I saw go past 12 episodes and I honestly could have been cool with it going on forever.
The first season kind of reminded me of Stargate and realisatically, I’d have happily sat through 10 seasons of this. It is just kind easy watching.
And, in retrospect, it strangely was able to balance all the genres it touched on. Yes, there was a bit of ecchi, but the sci-fi/ fantasy elements were on point. Also, it had these rather epic action scenes, especially with the Red Dragon. Not to forget quality character interaction, relationships, and growth.
I also loved the soundtrack at times. But yeah, the character interactions were what made the show really enjoyable. Even when the story didn’t quite word as well as it should the characters carried it for me.
