It is time for everyone to return back to the special region, but of course some decide to make it difficult to do so, in more ways than one.

Characters & Story (with Commentary)

Topic 1: Another Massacre – Rory & Itami

As we have known for a while, the United States badly wants an audience with those of the special region, likely to forge their own relationship with them without Japan, but what isn’t know is what Russia and China want. For, during the would be assault which becomes a 4 way fight, with the sides being Russia, the US, China, and Rory, we learn it is the Chinese and Russians who have also been stalking the members of the Special region. However, as noted, while we have spent some time with the US president to understand his desires, we have not with the presiding members of the other nations to know their intentions.

Princess Pina is under the impression they are involved to either halt or help peace, but being that resources has thus far been the main issue, arguably they may just want what the Americans do. However, unlike the Americans, it seems there is no dialog with Japan what so ever when it comes to the Russians or China. Either way though, it doesn’t matter what their intentions were for Rory pretty much kills damn near every squadron. Something which pretty much leads to China and Russia pulling back, but not the Americans since they are stubborn.

Topic 2: On The Way Home – Itami and Rory

Agent Graham, the American representative, despite heavy losses, continues to stalk, and try to find a way, to kidnap the members of the special region. Unfortunately for him though, Itami and his group came up with a plan. One which has Risa making the special regions members leaving a big deal and then comes Rory. She, as always, finds herself doing more to protect the special region members than Itami and crew. As for what act she does to follow up killing more than a dozen agents? Well, it is simply by walking out of the convoy and being seen. With this comes a parade like space for them to walk, highly visible, and make it even harder for the Agent Graham, and those who remain, to do anything.

Well, at least so it seems. For Agent Graham did plan to cause a commotion, but then Komakado pops up and tells Graham that all his men have been arrested. Making it so that Itami and crew get back to the gate safely.

Topic 3: The Next Move – Princess Pina and Tuka

With everyone back in the special region, so comes the question of what is next? Well, for Princess Pina her next move is all about crafting a peace agreement. For with what she knows now, there is no way in hell she can, in good faith, even let the war with Japan continue. After all, she has seen their machine guns, their advanced technology, and has seen the type of things which show that a war against them wouldn’t just be one sided, but genocide.

As for Tuka? Well, she still seems to believe her father is alive and hopefully the show will address this as an issue. When it comes to everyone else though? Well, not much in the way of signs of what is to come is given, but here is hoping they keep up what makes this show so interesting on a weekly basis.

I really wish there was another season of GATE for the simple reason that I’d like them to actually bring the conflict to a conclusion. I know there are issues with the story, but I was enjoying it and it just kind of left me hanging and that kind of takes the rewatch fun out of it.

There needs to at least be a ova, if not a full movie. This was the first show I saw go past 12 episodes and I honestly could have been cool with it going on forever.

The first season kind of reminded me of Stargate and realisatically, I’d have happily sat through 10 seasons of this. It is just kind easy watching.

And, in retrospect, it strangely was able to balance all the genres it touched on. Yes, there was a bit of ecchi, but the sci-fi/ fantasy elements were on point. Also, it had these rather epic action scenes, especially with the Red Dragon. Not to forget quality character interaction, relationships, and growth.

I also loved the soundtrack at times. But yeah, the character interactions were what made the show really enjoyable. Even when the story didn’t quite word as well as it should the characters carried it for me.
