Whether you saw Jennifer Lopez’s take on Selena or not, a person’s story can’t really be surmised into 2 hours. So Netflix is bringing us over 6.

A coming of age story following Selena Quintanilla as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.
Unfortunately, when it comes to Selena, her fame is as much connected to her music as her tragic death. With this series, however, there is a hope that it’ll push the end farther back in people’s memories and instead remind us of her beginning and height. And considering members of her family are involved, that means there shouldn’t be any limitation in terms of getting music, outfits, archival footage, and things of that nature. All we’ll have to worry about is this coming off too much like marketing material to give a boost to the various products associated with Selena. That is, rather than giving us a warts and all depiction of the icon.
