Official Synopsis

Alyssa (Jessica Barden) in a wedding dress.
Alyssa (Jessica Barden)

Alyssa (Jessica Barden, The Lobster) is still dealing with the fallout of the events of the first series. The second series sees the introduction of the new character of Bonnie, played by BIFA-winning Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth, the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode IX). Bonnie is an outsider with a troubled past and a mysterious connection to Alyssa.

British writer Charlie Covell returns to write the second season of the series which is inspired by the characters from the award-winning series of comic books by Charles Forsman. The original songs and score will again be written and performed by Graham Coxon. British directors Lucy Forbes (In My Skin) and Destiny Ekaragha (Gone Too Far) direct the first and second block respectively.

Our Take

Bonnie (Naomi Ackie) looking in a mirror.
Bonnie (Naomi Ackie)

Taking note the way the trailer is set up, it appears Alyssa likely is getting married under the idea that, if she gets married to James, who likely is alive, she won’t have to testify against him. Now, as for who Bonnie is? Well, let’s consider the various houses broken into and the recklessness of James and Alyssa in season one. Heck, considering all the animals James killed in his lead up to thinking he could kill Alyssa, who is to say he didn’t kill some of Bonnie’s animals?

Granted, it directly says above she has a connection to Alyssa, but there is the need to question if that’s redirection? Though, there is always the chance that, when Alyssa was younger, she found a James type before. Maybe even her type, romantically, are those troubled and a bit aloof like James – no matter their gender? You never know.

A bullet with James' name on it.

What is known though is based on the picture above, more than likely James is alive and when you add the bullet with his name on it, that really pushes the idea Bonnie is either out for revenge or may try to kill James out of jealousy. Hard to say since they are smartly being secretive about what is going to happen.
