On one of the most controversial radio programs in urban radio, perhaps radio in general, the calm, cool and collected SNL veteran Kenan Thompson sat down for a conversation. Some highlights below.

Kenan Thompson, at this point, has the longest tenure on Saturday Night Live, and if not some kind of legend, at the very least has a pedestal when it comes to sketch comedy. So with a recent mini-reunion on Nick Cannon’s Wild N’ Out, of course in this revival era, the idea is out there for a reunion special. An idea Thompson notes he is all for. Though, you got to wonder, with the show being revived and canceled a multitude of times since 1994, would Nickelodeon finance it?

But perhaps another question to ask is, with the way the #MeToo movement is, will the revival of the show maybe lead to creator Dan Schneider being the latest person to face the court of public opinion? Not to dig too deep into that controversy, since everything is rumors and assumptions and no one has come out yet, but there is the belief something could happen in a Woody Allen or Roman Polanski kind of way. What I mean by that is, not too long after an announcement, so drops an article exposing the man. Someone who is not only noted as the man who jumpstarted Kenan Thompson and Nick Cannon’s careers, but the majority of the female stars who came out of Nickolodean. Whether you speak about Amanda Bynes, whose name is very much entangled with the scandal, to Arianna Grande, even if he didn’t, as alleged, touch them inappropriately, Kira Davis, of “Red State,” links to the type of examples that go beyond him crafting uncomfortable moment. Even if in a way most wouldn’t take note, they do come off a bit creepy as you really analyze them.

Though it wouldn’t just be the All That reunion that might mess up. According to Thompson, though it isn’t noted when there was a conversation about Good Burger 2, it did happen. In it, Thompson would be just out of jail because of something Ed got him into. Which of course brought up a lot of questions of how to handle that in this day and age. For lest we forget, whether talking about Dan Schneider’s productions and how risque some could be, to the jokes Kenan Thompson, alongside Kel Mitchell, took part in, what worked in the 90s wouldn’t survive in the court of social media.

Yet, not necessarily discouraged, Thompson notes he wants something real like that. Especially at this point in his life, pushing 40, and wanting it to be real and grown up. Perhaps, not specifically said by him, similar to how Raven Symone grew up and while still the psychic Raven, now she is dealing with being a mom, bills, and a boss who gets on her last damn nerve.

Which probably may lead some to question: Doesn’t Kenan hate Kel? Back in 2014, there was a TMZ interview which incited the idea there might have been issues coming from Kenan. However, the way Thompson puts it, there came a point where, while they both recognized Kenan and Kelalongside Good Burger were good projects for their careers, they wanted to be individuals. Kenan especially, who makes it sound like he really wanted to be his own guy. So, while they remained cool, they haven’t been close. Plus, when Mitchell moved out west, it didn’t really make it easier to hang out, be seen, and follow that TMZ moment with the type of correction which would calm those rumors down.

Leaving us with this fun fact, Kel Mitchell auditioned for SNL. Meaning, despite Kenan wanting some separation, the two could have been on a sketch comedy show again. However, it seems Kel didn’t make it past the first round of auditions so a scripted reunion will remain just a dream.

Check out the interview below.
